GREAT sound bar for all those hard-to-hear movies!
This is my second one. This model is a bit fancier than the one it replaced. This model is a little larger and has a nice wooden enclosure, but the electronics and sound quality are probably identical to the less expensive AV257. That said, this sound bar (set up as a center speaker in a 7.1 system) is totally customizable for music and movie dialogue... So it's perfect for music or movies or TV. Do not let the small size and low price deceive you! It sounds VERY GOOD with my Polk surround sound system. Now my wife, (with a mild hearing loss) enjoys all the movies without difficulty. And I can adjust it quickly to make my music sound perfect. Ahh, but this means yet another remote control. At least it is a straight-up design and easy to use. I sold my first ZVOX to neighbors that complained about hard to hear movies, and they LOVE it! It has both analog and digital inputs. It is an active (powered) speaker so it requires line-level (not speaker) outputs from your TV or HiFi system. Lots of options and nifty features built in.

Excellent product
This speaker has great sound and clarity, an obvious winner! I wear hearing aids and had a very good mid-priced bar speaker but still had problems understanding some voices, especially strongly-accented (to me) such as British shows, so decided to replace it with this AV357 speaker. The options provided and sound level choices have taken care of the problem; just its normal setting is so clear, but on shows such as sporting events or anything with strong background noise, I can choose advanced settings and the voice becomes more dominant and the background noise is reduced. The remote is a bit "picky"...it has to be directly pointed at the sound bar for connection, I'd like to see it a little more 'generalized', but it is very accurate and when I got used to its functionality...a very short "learning curve" such as that it will start out at last setting or will return to the basic setting when trying different sound levels...just need to look at what you're doing - the sound bar's visual setting is extremely clear even in daylight in my very light-filled living room.Overall, a very good product that I highly recommend. It's worth every penny especially if you have challenging hearing issues. I no longer have to make sure I have my hearing aids in to clearly hear the programs and voices.

It Works as Advertised
The main selling point for this soundbar is that it can make voices clearer by lowering background sounds while people are speaking. This works very well, and is a great asset for the hearing impaired as well as people with no hearing impairment. There are 12 different settings to use. The higher the setting, the clearer the voices are, but the tinnier the sound. I purchased a Monoprice sub-woofer to improve the base and it was a huge improvement. The speaker price was about $52. Well worth it. This soundbar works as it should, but at $233, is a bit pricey. All-in-all, I have no regrets purchasing this item.

Works Well With Amazon FireTV 4K
I bought 2 of these soundbars and 2 50" FireTV 4K televisions for my elderly father this past Christmas. He wants to "cut the cord" and end the $300/mo cable bill. He isn't particularly technically inclined and struggles with the management of "over the top" services. Still, he's getting a handle on his new setup. There are instructions on the Zvox website for enabling the soundbar to be controlled by The FireTV remote control. It works smoothly with the volume and power settings of the soundbar. The soundbar is connected via an optical input to the TV and the TV's internal speakers are disabled. I also disabled the soundbar's "auto power off" feature to keep it from turning itself off and confusing things. Simplifying the controls down to a single remote was essential to the success of this transition away from cable. The sound quality is good and the Zvox does make the dialogue of shows much more intelligible. I am very pleased and would buy it again!

Going deaf? Someone in the household not appreciating your TV volume?
I have battled muffled voice/speech etc on TV's for some years. I was ready to dump our oldest TV in favor of something with better volume and a lot more money. Instead I got one of these. No need for a new TV, this speaker separates the voices and gives you lots of control as to how much separation as well as a number of other controls. Setup is brain dead, just make sure your TV has a standard optical port (there are other ways to do it but this is simplest), remote is easy to understand, directions are good. This device is night and day better than a new TV for those with hearing issues.
