No surprises but some good lines
This won't tax or surprise you. It's lazy Sunday afternoon fodder, saved by the likeable Sandra Bullock. Hugh Grant is his usual poor excuse for an actor, even managing to over-act being himself as the same wooden, exaggerated British fop he plays in everything. So wooden that he almost manages to spoil it. Thankfully, some of the lines he's been given are the saving grace. So, you will laugh, you will smile, you will get a warm feeling in your tummy and you will know exactly where this is headed at every stage. Does it have any real merit? Nah, not really. Is there any harm in it? Hmmm, a little, in the way it characterises womanising as just another charming eccentricity of this supposedly oh-so-British 'chap'. There's little depth but if you've clicked on a Hugh Grant film, then I doubt you're expecting much. It's a shame really, because another, grittier actor with some actual ability could have lifted this film a lot, given that the dialogue is always snappy, mostly fun and sometimes even brilliant. So minus 1 for predictability, minus 1 for Hugh Grant, minus another for 'charming' sexism. The good dialogue and Sandra's easy, likeable style = 2 stars in all.

Great film otherwise but a shame about Trump
Hugh Grant plays a property tycoon and so Trump gets mentioned in [passing a few times as a rival for some properties, then at towards the end, there was a speaking cameo of him at a fundraiser. As much as I enjoyed the rest of the film, seeing him fawn over Sandra Bullock made me feel queasy given what's in the news about him and women. That and I had wanted to enjoy a film to get away from Trump, May, Brexit, all that kind of mess, and then bam! There he was. Just would have been nice if he was listed in the credits on Amazon so we'd have known. Three and a half stars, as the way he was written in that scene looked very much like pandering. YUCK.

I thought the President delivered his line very well.
It's a good film, well acted and full of good lines, but somewhat spoiled by the inevitability of the plot. After the first few minutes, the plot was on rails and thoroughly predictable. Strangely though, it still made me smile because I was happy to see Lucy and George together. Also there was a very minor speaking part by President Trump (as himself) somewhere towards the end. I thought the President delivered his line very well.
