Great value Product
My hard Drive "died" on me two days ago. You always promise yourself one day that you'll burn copies or upload all valuable photos documents etc to the cloud. Not me! Thought that the drive was dead to me. Ordered this as an inexpensive way of checking if the power, bridge board had failed. Cheaper than taking it to a repair shop.Arrived today, stripped the hard drive out of the old casing (which took longer than inserting it into the new one) Fitted HD to new casing in less than two minutes. Hey Presto HD fires up and years of everything are back in place. Much relieved and now ordering DVDs to burn copies and increasing my cloud storage to upload precious camera and docs to.The product itself is fantastically simple and fast to plug into. Sleek looking. The LED is mounted at the back of the unit besides the cable and on/off switch which means you get a dull LED glow on the wall to tell you it's on, without a bright blue LED glaring in your eyes if it were front mounted.Dispatch was as promised and delivered next day. Great value, great service, and great to have valuable HD contents back and available.

It's ok, transfer speeds inconsistant.
I bought this to retrieve my files after Windows became unstable on me and my back up wasn't recent (long story). The product itself works fine, I transferred everything from a HDD to an external drive and saw transfer speeds that fluctuated very drastically. Average for me was probably around 150 mbps but dipped really low. You defiantly get what you pay or, it's a little cheaper than many. Wouldn't get it if you want it for media production or anything like that, but occasional pc repair should be ok.

Pretty good disk enclosure at a very reasonable price
Pretty decent drive enclosure. It's solidly build and very simple to use. The engagement of the cover onto the main unit once you have inserted the drive is not as positive as I would like, and that is a shame because that is the only thing that is holding the drive in place. So far, it has survived a 48h restore without any real problems, and certainly no signs of overheating so far (which has been reported in reviews on other listing of the same enclosure on Amazon). There has been only one problem so far. After restoring the contents of my previous drive onto this one, I moved it and decided to put it on its side, to reduce the risk of it over heating. A couple of times in the days after doing this, the drive disconnected from the computer (a Mac running OS X El Capitan). Once I thought abut this, I realised that I had placed it so that the SATA connector was at the top of the case, so gravity would be pulling the drive off the connector. Once I reseated the drive and put the enclosure horizontally, I have (so far at least) had no further problems.I would generally recommend this as long as you're careful how you place it, and I will definitely be looking at one of Orico's 5-drive RAID enclosures.

Otherwise perfect - apart from cooking my hard drives to between 65C and 75C!
I bought 4 of these, as I had a RAID-6 array of 4 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda hard drives, which used to be in an old PC tower which ran Linux, until that decided to die on me a week or two ago.It was a doddle to install the hard drives in these... you just slide the lids off, put the drives in, slide the lids back on, and Bob's your uncle! Even better, when connecting the drives via USB to a Raspberry Pi 2 running Pidora, the drives were immediately recognised as a RAID-6 array rather than me having to do any faffing about to get them to work! However, this product has one major, major flaw... inadequate cooling! When I ran the smartctl utility to report the status of the hard drives, I was shocked to see a "FAILING_NOW" warning for each of my drives, owing to excessive temperature... my 4 hard drives had all reached temperatures of between 65C and 75C, which is seriously excessive, and could risk killing the hard drive if left at that temperature for any length of time! Thankfully the drives had only been in the caddys for a couple of hours or so at this point, so are still in the land of the living, although the outcome could have been much, much worse if I hadn't realised in time! For that very reason, I returned the caddys to Amazon for a refund, as they were not fit for purpose due to the overheating issue.

Well, it works. But it's replaced a USB 2.0 caddy. This time around I have to switch on the caddy manually every time I want to use it - it doesn't power on with my computer, and there's no on/off toggle, so it'll switch off automatically but not on. Inconvenient.Additionally it bizarrely immediately started causing lag on my wireless mouse and keyboard.

A satisfied non techy customer.
I purchased this item to accommodate a 2TB Samsung hard drive that I had originally intended to have fitted internally to my desktop PC, however I then decided to have the hard drive as an external means of storage, thus allowing me the option to remove the hard drive when away from home and thus protecting my stored data and photographs. After looking at various choices I felt the reviews for the ORICO made it a safe bet, and I was certainly not proved wrong. Using the instructions provided the fitting of the hard drive into the case was seamless, and the bonus of having easy to read instructions proved the bonus for me, as I am not technically minded. I followed the instructions and within five minutes at most I had a fully functional external hard drive. After spending the morning transferring my files over I thought it safe to now offer a product review. Like a previous reviewer I was pleased to find it had an on/off switch, this is certainly handy if you are not actually using the drive, and it is now just a matter of time to see if the case continues to do its job, though I see no reason for it not to, as it looks like any other external drive case, with the exception that this one allows the owner to easily remove and exchange a hard drive if so desired. All in all I am pleased with my choice of the ORICO 3.5inch tool free HDD case.
