Just like the Spinal Tap movie in fact
The Jinhao 159 is jolly similar to the Montblanc 149, but 159 is 10 more than the 149! Just like the Spinal Tap movie in fact, where their amp goes all the way up to 11 (that's 1 more than 10 OK). On a serious note, what a great pen. Writes supremely well and looks amazing. Well finished, a nice weight and enormous in size. Very similar to the Montblanc and will draw admiring glances. A crackingly good pen at a bargain price.

When is a Montblanc 159 not a 159? When it's a Jinhao 159!
So, what did I expect from a six pound (Sterling not weight) pen. Not much really. At a distance it is made to resemble the Montblanc Meisterstuck 159, but surely a pen costing this little wouldn't match the leviathan three hundred pound pen. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. OK, the finish isn't Montblanc level, by a long way. You can clearly feel the metal banding at the base and the cap of the pen. The clip is pressed metal and you can see this from the back of it. My worry was that this clip was going to be micron this and snap off as I looked at it, but its quite sturdy. The plastic of the pen its self is OK, again no Montblanc, but hey.Now on to what is great about it. The weight is amazing. I would say the size and weight match the Montblanc 159 exactly! Things improve further when you take the cap off. The fit of the barrel to the nib is excellent. I would suggest that if someone put this in your hand and you weren't looking you would think you had a Montbalnc. I filled it up using the screw adapter with my standard Waterman Black and away I went. The pen writes beautifully, nice medium nib, good strong ink flow and as mentioned the balance is perfect. The metal work on the cap thread and barrel thread are both excellent and reminded me of my Tombow Superpen, which I have had 20+ years and is still going strong. So well done again China, you've managed to copy a European luxury product for a fraction of it's price. You're not going to anybody and no serious fountain pen enthusiast is going to be collecting your products. But, you have some decent manufacturing capability and hopefully in time you will make enough money from these not quite forgeries to develop your own range of pens, upping the quality of your plastics and plastic finishing and improving some of your metal work. In the meantime, I will enjoy a pen that writes like a Montblanc, but which won't upset me as much if I leave it on a train, like my actual Montblanc 159! I have also ordered their 147, so will review that soon.

Writes very nicely - I didn't have any problems with the ink flow, and the provided converter did its job with no issues. The Jinhao 159 is a chinese copy of the Montblanc 149, a pen that usually sells for hundreds of pounds. As such, it shares the 149's unusual cigar proportions; it is considerably thicker than most pens I've used, and combined with its very solid build, is surprisingly weighty. This might suit some users more than others; it took me a while to adapt to it.It has a couple of interesting quirks - firstly the cap is screw on, which makes it ideal for using with permanent inks that you don't want to risk getting on anything. Secondly, the nib has "18k gp" engraved on it, implying it should be made of gold (presumably white gold given the colouring) but it appears to be made out of steel. This has no impact on how well it functions.

Big and Heavy, but GREAT
This is a big and heavy pen. The barrel is very big and the overall weight is heavy. However I like this, it writes well with standard ink in the converter with a medium nib. Be aware that this is a very wet nib, so let things dry. I am very surprised at how well this pen works, when is is a 10th of the price of all my other pens.Recommened

A classy looking whopper, without the whopping price!
Based on the Mont Blanc Meisterstück 149, the Jinhao 159 is a big beefy fountain pen, that is substantially heavier than the Mont Blanc’s 31.7g weight. At a whopping 50g, this is not a pen for the small of hand!Of course the build quality is not in the same league as the vastly more expensive high-end Meisterstück, so it would be silly to compare. However, for the £3.58 I paid on Amazon, it’s certainly worth the money. The cap and barrel are metal with glossy plastic overlaid, with coated brass finials. The 159 is on a par with the features of other Jinhao pens such as the X450 and X750, only heavier. Like the others, it comes supplied with a screw type International Standard Cartridge Converter, and the same medium polished steel nib and feed as the X750, so the writing experience is pretty much the same. The 159’s size is a little bigger all around than the X750, the main difference being in the girth. (I’ve included a few side by side comparison photos of the 159 next to an X750.) The larger grip section is good for people with big hands. The general bulk of the pen gives it a sturdy feels, like it could take a few knocks. Indeed mine arrived all the way from China in nothing more than an envelope without so much as a scratch. The cap does not post but even if it did, at 20g it would be far too heavy to do so. The nib is a standard No.6 friction fit, so it’s easy to pull out for cleaning or replacement. As a general purpose ultra cheap fountain pen with serious heft, the Jinhao 159 is hard to beat for value.Jinhao 159 vs X750 - The StatsDimensions: 159 X750Length capped: 149mm 141mmLength uncapped: 126mm 125mmCap width (excluding decorative band & clip) 17.18mm 13.61mmBarrel width, max: 15.94mm 13.62mmGrip Section width, max: 13.40mm 11.59mmGrip Section width, min: 11.90mm 10.32mmWeights. 159 X750Cap only: 20g 15gPen only, no converter: 30g 25gIf you found my review helpful, please click the Yes button to let me know. Too thick , almost comical
Only looks good , it's not functional too thick ( almost comical) and it leaks when you keep it.The cap and the pen stem close to nib always has few ink drop every time you open it
