SpeedriteAN90 Battery Fence Energizer, 0.12 Joule

I purchased this for a back country trip to Alaska to use as a portable bear fence. I used this unit, as well as some twisted electric fence rope and screw-in plastic hangers for the rope. I purchased the rope and hangers at the local farm store. The plastic hangers worked well for screwing into trees around the camp.We set this up for 5 day and nights straight--only turning it off when entered or left camp. No issues with battery life and the unit held up well during our 11 mile hike in and out. I tested the fence every day to make sure there were no compromises to the rope and it give quite a little jolt. Enough juice to make you jump, but not horrible. It likely would make a bear step back and rethink, though I'm not sure as we don't think we had any try to test it.Our fenced in camp area was probably a run of 240yds of fence rope. We ran two strands in a square about 30x30. I used the yellow alligator clamp provided to run the juice from the unit to the fence rope, although you can hang the unit on the rope if you want. Since we had a "door" area that we created with a Nite Ize twist tie, we didn't want the weight of the unit on the fence when we would tighten it up or take it down. I attached the ground alligator clip to a small metal rod (nothing provided) that I simply stuck in the ground.When handling the unit for turning on/off, you will get a jolt if you touch the metal tab on the top (with wet gloves).

Brown bears HATE this thing!!! It's saved my airplane and several hunting kills on several occasions. And it shocked several of my friends. ; -)

i should have gotten a stronger charger for the length of fencing i have, but i don't see signs of animal intrusion yet.maybe next year i'll get a stronger version of this charger.otherwise, the rating of a 4 is more my fault for getting a lower power device.

Works. We have this on about a 10 acres pasture.
