A shoddy, lazy, follow-up with bad FX, even worse plotting and a total lack of care for the audience.
Wow. Bad sequeldom gets to add to its heap with this very poor follow-up. While the original 'Wishmaster' wasn't an A-grade movie, it was a mass of fun guilty pleasures - a decent heroine, characters who seemed to believe in the plot, a threatening bad guy with a nasty plan, and lots of impressive SFX and gore that's still almost all convincing today. This sequel lumbers us with a terrible heroine in the form of a fake Goth girl. We know she's a Goth because she has a big neon cross, wears a lot of black and heavy makeup, and mopes a lot. When told she needs to be pure to defeat the bad guy, her idea of being 'pure' appears to equal self-mutilation and dressing prim and dowdy, while still trying to get it on with a priest.Meanwhile the directing style is ham-fisted and uninspired, and Andrew Divoff who plays the 'human' incarnation of the Wishmaster appears to have lost any of the evil nuance that made the original such fun. Here he plays the character as a perpetually grinning imbecile. His manic grinning schtick becomes so ridiculous that its impossible to believe the prisoners he spends most of the film locked in with wouldn't just beat him to death - especially when he starts asking them insistent personal questions about their hopes and weaknesses. The film is atrociously written, with poor motivations, awful plot and terrible dialogue. Worse still, it's neither frightening, nor particularly impressive on the visuals; and it's clear the director or producers don't care. A 'frozen' man is subjected to a rubbish special effect then allowed to be seen clearly wobbling as characters talk about how he's "frozen solid!". In a scene in a casino, terrible SFX playing cards and other misguided decisions shatter any credibility or suspense. Wishmaster was supposed to be a camp, vicious little horror movie with good FX. This has clearly been written off as a cheap throwaway follow up to earn some bucks from the beer & party crowd and made with the minimum of care.As someone who'd usually be encouraging you to take a chance on pretty much any monster movie, take it from me - this one isn't worth the effort.

Avatara's review of Wishmaster 2 "Evil Never Dies" DVD.
This is the second film in a series of 4 and follows on in a fashion from the first film. Special effects are improved upon, the story is relatively strong and is well acted even though the cast are not Hollywood superstars. Once again the script is true to source materials and remains interesting and entertaining. There is some gore, violence, irreverence and blasphemy but it serves the essence of the story well. Once again this film may offend people who are sensitive, religious or underage so please be responsible when viewing this film as it may cause the above mentioned people stress, upset or offence. There are also moments of black humour which may be taken as socially inappropriate so please don't buy this DVD if you are easily offended. Personally I love this series of films and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who is a fan of supernatural horror films.

This is Full Moon Entertainment at it's Campy monster movie best.
Full Moon specialized in made - for - the - video market place in the 80s and 90s . Lots of robots, monsters, vampires, other "out there" subjects for ever hungry monster kids. The Wishmaster series fell right in there. They were not as repetitious as some of the European films got. But you can do much more with a Djinn gone bad than you can with a more standard character. What would have happened if Aladdin's best buddy went rogue?
