Strike Back - Complete Series 1-5 [DVD]

Interesting locales but the action scenes are repetitive
Just finished watching the first 5 Seasons. The weakest season seems to be the first one as I felt the main actors do not not have much chemistry. What is outstanding about the whole series is that it takes you round the world to many colourful cities and locations. What makes it interesting also is that the stories are torn from yesterday's headlines. On the downside, I find the actions just too sleek and often times unbelievable. For more than half the entire series, the good guys, heavily outnumbered are shooting out with the bad guys and coming out with wounds from which they quickly recovered. Many times you see our heroes walking thru hails of gunfire unscathed. I find it comical that very often you see the bad guys firing at the good guys speeding away in a car or truck with broken windows, front and rear windscreens and peppered full of bullets but somehow not one bullet hit the tyre! The series had become quite repetitive. If I had not bought the whole boxset, given that the first season was lukewarm, I would say 2 or 3 Seasons would be more than enough for me.

Addictive, explosive entertainment!
These actors received training by Special Forces operators and it shows, as the movement and firefight sequences are far more impressive than normally seen even in the cinema, much less on television. This is also the ultimate male-bonding story between Sullivan Stapleton (Damien Scott) and Philip Winchester (Michael Stonebridge). Two soldiers become best friends during hazardous missions, and by the time you reach the end of Season 5 you will wish that they could keep this team together for years to come. Another outstanding element of this series is that each season is one long storyline, with twists and turns along the way.One note: Season One, though technically Strike Back, is not nearly as well presented, and to be honest you could skip it and not really miss anything crucial to the storyline. My only issue is the lack of a Blu-ray box set option. They have made a few of the seasons available on Blu-ray, but not the entire box set and that is quite annoying being that it is 2017 and Blu-ray is the defacto standard for cinematic and sound quality. You can sometimes find Blu-ray copies of individual seasons which is what I have done, and replaced the included season on DVD with the Blu-ray version. I just have the last two seasons to find

Entertaining.
I have to start by saying I haven’t viewed Series 1-5 in entirety. However, based on what I have seen, some of the plot lines have stretched the bounds of credibility, somewhat. In addition, I have observed some irritating minor details. Take for example, radio procedure: it’s either ‘over’ or ‘out’ it’s never ‘over and out.’ If the actors had been coached by UKSF, as indicated by a previous reviewer, I would have thought they would have got that right. Notwithstanding some minor shortfalls, the series has been enjoyable.

the chemistry between the two really worked and the banter was brilliant and I ended up loving both of them
Just finished watching the final season and I'm really going to miss it. The two main characters really grew on me, although I did find them a bit irritating to begin with, especially Damian. However, the chemistry between the two really worked and the banter was brilliant and I ended up loving both of them. I feel now that it's ended the same way I felt at the end of Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy - stupidly bereft. If like me you want action, there's wall-to-wall. The producers weren't afraid of bumping off main characters so there was also the shock value. Was it cheesy? Yes, in parts. If I have one criticism, I didn't enjoy season 3 which was set in South Africa. Some reviewers have said they could have made another season, but I think it ended at the right time and on a high. Brilliant series!

Fantastic Series
Action, drama and suspense at its finest. The entire series has very high production values that sometimes rival James Bond movies and great acting. It's fast paced, exciting, tense, extremely violent and sexy and while it might put action and excitement over deep storytelling at times, it does what it does very well. It's also beautifully shot in deferent locations around the world. Please know that Cinemax has now renewed the series for a 10 parts sixth season 'Retribution' (this box set contains the only first five seasons) which is currently shown on Sky One (as on the 26th of January 2017) and will debut on Cinemax US on the 2nd of February 2018. Watch it soon!

Best TV ever.
I just loved this on tv. The first series was good but series 2 - 5 were superb. The cinematography was outstanding, just like being at the movies. Pure adrenalin rush. Two super solders - knockout. Women will love them and men will want to be them. Scott and Stonebridge are the hottest guys on TV ever. The stories are so fast, full of action and unexpected happenings they keep you glued to the screen. It is just dreadful that they have finished and that no more will be recorded. They are definitely a once off, they are so good, can't understand why they cancelled them. I know they like to go out on a high but they still had a few more series in it.

disappointing
this started out with the first episode being brilliant. However for me, the dialogue between the 2 main players becomes trite and ridiculous and the action is ridiculous (up to 50 insurgents vs the 2 main guys and they kill them all with not an injury). The sex scenes (for real? prob) are over the top. Ur in a seriously dangerous situation and what do u want to do? shag. It is a pity for there are some great visiting actors and potential story lines and the scenery is wonderful but the dialogue (mostly) just kills it dead for me. And i'm only half way thru the season. Ive put it on hold. which is a pity.but if u like action, and all the rest, watch it. i am just disappointed. There is another series out (can I mention it here? Homeland). it is terrific and not a foot put wrong.
