Excellent course. One of the best in the Hugo series. It really does take you step-by-step and build things up in the right order and at the right pace. The CDs are a must as the pronounciation is Dutch is a bit strange when you first meet it as an English speaker. I used this course for 6 months (3 months is a bit optimistic) and could converse OK and understand a LOT in Holland. Thanks to the rules explained in this book I am now fluent 5 years later and I can spell better than a lot of Dutch people. I bought this again to be a basis for teaching Dutch in this country

Dutch is not the easiest language to learn. If you are an English speaker, however, with a reasonable knowledge of German and are blessed with a Scottish tongue, you might just find yourself halfway there as you will be able, with a little help, to overcome the serious problems of pronunciation you will encounter. Otherwise you will need an excellent language course to help you get started and, as it just so happens, the HUGO DK course is what you are seeking. Don't hesitate. No need. This is just what you are looking for. Buy and enjoy mastering the basics of a beautiful European language!

Let's be honest here - anything that says "3 Months" when it comes to language learning is going to leave you at a basic level at best. The claim that you "will feel confident in understanding and speaking the language" is a bit far. I find it a bit awkward that companies marketing products have to make these exaggerated claims to compete with other companies making exaggerated claims, when it's otherwise a reasonable and solid product.I had been learning Dutch with internet resources for 2 and a half months. I went to the Netherlands and realised that whilst I understood the intent of lots of written text, my listening skills were awful. I bought this book to improve my grammar skills and bought it with the CDs to improve my listening skills.When it came the product box was really good quality. The first thing I did was copy the CDs on a computer so that I could play them on my MP3 player. The content of the CDs is good, the quality of the actual CD discs themselves was poor though. During copying there were lots of misreads and the player struggled to read them. Ultimately this didn't matter to me as I now use the MP3 copies, but if you want to play them from a CD player then this should be kept in mind.I find the book itself good but quite hard going to work through. It isn't exactly rip-roaring fun! I know that generally grammar and fun don't mix but I'm just left with the feeling that, although it's probably the best of its sort, it's missing something. However, I use the MP3s I made from the CDs every day. These I mostly repeat playing all the way through. At first I found them quite fast, after a few weeks I've found them much easier.Therefore I think this is a good resource for the price. But I think it's more of a companion resource for another method of learning. Currently I'm using this with the Duolingo and Memrise websites, which is a combination that I think works well.

Very good course. I think the c.d conversations are fast and could be better. Also no picture's or maps of the country.It would be nice to have a map of the railway and photos of towns and and small maps too.Even a short video cilp on the c.d maybe of natives talking about shopping ect.But its very good to take with you on a long trip to the country ect. I may get German next.

Only being using for a few weeks. Its easy to use. Ripped the CDs to my mobile and MP3 player easily.

I bought this book and cd because my girlfriend is Dutch. I am now half way through week 11 and I am already holding my own speaking with Dutch people, it is quite remarkable! Highly recommended product, gives you a really solid grounding that you can then build on as you converse in the language.

It's well done, and I liked the exercises and the CDs were clear, but I struggled retaining the vocabulary and gave up in frustration at how bad I was at learning lists of words to use in the exercises, or the different versions of verbs dependant on if it's I, he, she, they etc.Since then, I've bought Michel Thomas Dutch https://www.amazon.co.uk/Michel-Thomas-Method-Introductory-Course/dp/0340971703/ref=sr_1_21?dchild=1&keywords=michel+thomas+dutch&qid=1633343236&s=books&sr=1-21 and am getting on much better with it. It's a different teaching style and suits me loads better, but I'm hoping to revisit "Dutch in three months" after I've learnt everything I can from Michel Thomas Dutch.

The book is great; specially I like the sequence of which new subjects are brought up as you progress.Many of my questions about the rules in the Dutch language, which I hadn't been able to find an organised answer for, were actually answered in the first few chapters in a nicely structured way!

The claim is three months provided u invest an hour a day, I don't believe it is possible for most people..My main problem with the book though is its conversations. They are very shallow and wouldn't help much in daily life. One of them for an example is about a gossip between two people bad mouthing strangers, the next one was someone using strong language in a normal situation which would complicate stuff if used in a daily situation... Overall, I like the approach but the content is somewhat less than OK.Update: I'm now half way through.. The conversations are really bad and sometimes introduce vocab and grammar that wasn't yet explained.. Currently really unsatisfied with the book, I don't recommend it

Excellent reference book for beginners as well refreshers. Very useful to understand sentence construction. Grammar, too, has been explained well. The accompanying audio has an excellent quality. Overall very satisfied with the book. This is an absolute MUST for anyone and everyone who wishes to learn Dutch. Strongly recommend it even to teachers who wish to teach students in a short span of time. This book will also come in handy if you wish to prepare for the Civic Integration Exam as it provides a compact review of the essential grammar.

Audio could be better as it's fast running. Not for starters.Need basic knowledge to start with this.
