I'm a beginner and this is perfect for getting started. I haven't used the boards yet as I'm practicing on scrap wood. The brushes are okay, I didn't like their feel so I bought different ones to work with. Beautiful product, adorable and smart packaging, arrived promptly.

I'm new to encaustic painting and just wanted the basics. This is a decent starter kit, but you will need additional items (heat gun, warming surface- save your $$ and don't buy the full studio kit. Buy a cheap electric skillet as your warming pan). I wasn't a fan of the green or red paints provided though. They aren't true red or green, and mixing them with other colors creates very unsatisfying tones. I bought several cakes of individual colors separately to supplement the kit. If you're looking to dabble in this medium though, this is a good place to start.
