I love the feel and style of the book and
I love the feel and style of the book and, having been to Ashtanga classes for many years, I found out so much more from Kim in this book than any of the classes! Thoroughly recommended.

Ashtanga made clear
Great! A highly readable and informative book that makes the practice of Ashtanga accessible. Lovely photos help see what is being written about. Recommended.

funny, personable and informative book
Warm, funny, personable and informative book. Its good to find a book that aims to explain the hard practice of ashtanga in a light hearted manner.

The advice and layout of the book is great. Its very grounded in the authors own practice
A little preface to my opinion - I've studied yoga for around 6 years and have a daily practice. Earlier this year I spent 6 weeks under an ashtanga teacher in Mysore. I'm 41 and have used yoga as a way to go deeper into my own body and mind. The advice and layout of the book is great. Its very grounded in the authors own practice. A great student sometimes makes a great teacher. And I think that this is the case here. The authors own experience has been boiled down into 142 pages and makes for a great reference and manual when approaching the area of ashtanga. An honest and authentic account of the practice and tips required for developing a daily ashtanga practice.

Useless
One of the most useless books for Ashtanga Yoga. The content of the book can be found in the summary. The announced modifications in asana are purley rare😞. Save the money for the standards from David Swenson, John Scott or Gregor Mehle.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! This book is AMAZING, it fills all the gaps in my yoga practice!!!
If you are new to Ashtanga yoga, coming back to it after awhile like me, or just Ashtanga-curious, BUY THIS BOOK. I was watching really good Ashtanga yoga videos on YouTube from this author's own teacher Richard Freeman and other yoga luminaries, and they were very helpful for getting my practice up and running again. But no matter whom I watched, they skipped postures according to their own preferences or priorities. I kept feeling something was missing. I also had questions about when and how to breathe properly, and wondered about variations I could try for some poses that are hard on knees or the lower back. ITS ALL IN THIS BOOK!!! I felt like I made a list in my mind of what I needed, and found all the answers in these pages. Its important to point out, as the author does, that no book is a replacement for a real live teacher. If you are new to Ashtanga especially, you will also want to find an in-person "led" or "Mysore" style Ashtanga class to join when that's possible. I want that too, but for the evolution of my practice this book is as essential as my yoga mat!

Good read
I loved how the author presents the Ashtanga practice in such an accessible way , modifying so that it serves the individual. As it should be.

or you are already ten years in like I am
Kim has written an invaluable guide to an Ashtangi Yogi. Whether you are just starting out on your yoga journey, or you are already ten years in like I am, there is plenty of very useful and insightful information within these pages. I especially love the Asana photos and the detailed explanations of each along with alternatives, adjustments etc. What you will find here is an in depth guide to developing an ongoing, nuturing Ashtanga yoga practice. Plus there is detailed instructions on sitting meditation, which some say is the main reason for the Asana practice. Highly recommended manual for an Ashtangi yogi, regardless of where they are along the path, or what their current practice looks like.
