Read this and you will understand from where Barnier and Co. are coming from in their determination to screw the UK to the floor. History apart, this book sets out why the French are prevented from acting as individuals by a state mechanism that is terrified of anything new and therefore sets out (and succeeds in) squashing anything that does not originate from its own prejudices.

Very enjoyable and, in my view, pretty well spot on opinions of much of French life. Much as I like France and the French, I agree with much of the authors comments and he too clearly loves France. I don't know whether this book was proof read before publishing - I would hope so - but in the Kindle edition at least I don't think I have ever seen so many typos in one book, and I'm only at the chapter on the letter C. Sloppy publishing, but a worthwhile read for those who know France

If you ever considered investing money into a French run enterprise, after reading this book you will be very grateful to the author for showing you exactly why you should ALWAYS avoid any investment in France.

I have read now about 20 pages. Both interesting and amusing. However I have never read a kindle version of a book with so many typos. It is almost every paragraph. How this got through the publishing process is astonishing. Getting very annoying.

Knowledgeable, insightful, incisive, drizzled with richly-spiced opinions and sautéed in dry but zesty humour, this is a book for anyone who loves France and the French.

This books says it as it is according to the authors experience. I would disagree with some opinions, but personal experiences differ. Light and humorous but informative. A good read.
