A Complete Misunderstanding of the "Mutus Liber"
The "Mutus Liber" is, without exaggeration, one of the most famous of all pictorial treatises of alchemy. It has been fervently studied by alchemists since its appearance in the 17th century and it continues to be studied by practitioners of the Royal Art today.Unfortunately, it also tends to be studied by New Age individuals who have a desire to boil everything occult/esoteric down to nothing but psychology (in my humble opinion because of their lack of ability to actually comprehend occult/esoteric topics and their spiritual/etheric nature and come to terms with the reality of such--it is thus far easier to accept things if one can simply blame it all on the brain); and this sadly leads to results such as the present publication.Any alchemist worth his/her Salt (pardon the pun) quickly recognizes the operative details of the "Mutus Liber" and their function and knows that this is anything but mere metaphors for mental processes; especially considering the operations that follow one another are such as would only be understood by someone intimately familiar with the laboratory procedures of the Royal Art. Therefore, in the end, every single page of this book is, unfortunately, without meaning as it has been, from beginning to end, one entire misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the treatise. While one could argue that people can still muse over psychological implications of alchemical work, this does not change the fact that alchemy is what alchemy is and the same with regard to the practice of alchemy, no matter how much people of the New Age community would like it to be different--simply to make more ancient things more readily accessible to them, thereby such individuals not having to "bother" with tedious things such as actually purchasing laboratory equipment and having to spend hours, week after week, month after month, working with the equipment in a laboratory. God forbid one would actually have to DO the work!Lastly, to comment solely on the quality of the production itself rather than the contents, the book is an absolute editing mess! It is peppered with small cut-outs from the various plates that are splattered inside the main text in such a fashion that everything becomes incredibly messy and the text, in some places, close to illegible. All in all, as the content itself is a 100% pointless attempt at treating an alchemical treatise, and as the book is a veritable nightmare editing-wise, I cannot in good conscience recommend this book to anyone interested in the study & practice of the ancient and noble Art & Science of alchemy. Look instead at the original plates of the "Mutus Liber", which can be found online as well as obtained in color reproduction from Adam McLean; and also Magophon's commentary on the treatise ("Mutus Liber - The Book of Images Without Words"; Inner Garden Press, 2010) and Eugène Canseliet's "Mutus Liber - Alchemy and its Mute Book" (Inner Garden Press, 2015), also available here on Amazon.

I thought I was buying a straightforward copy of the Mutus Liber; more fool me.
Armchair cogitation grounded in eastern philosophy according to a western mind; confidently asserts that practical alchemy has no place in the deeper understanding of the subject (?!???!!). The typesetting and page layout are of fanzine quality and, come to think of it, the level of intellectual penetration is about the same. There is no mystic insight. All pictures are poorly reproduced; very much more ego on display than knowledge I'm afraid. Put the purchase price towards the French hardback of the Mutus Liber that is presently available.

Cobbled
Grateful for the information, disappointed by the authors total lack of skill in putting it together. One is left with the strong impression that the books material was jammed into the neck of a shotgun, rammed down with a broom stick and shot against a wall, so that whatever stuck would become the subsequent manuscript. Very cobbled together images, truly a grade 4 cut and paste magazine project. Still satisfied regardless!

Très mauvaise qualité
Inadmissible!
