Can you use this with a tripod plate or L Bracket attached?

Yes to tripod plate and yes-ish to L bracket; it will slightly deform the cover with an”L” bracket. And to use a battery grip with this cover, it needs to be trimmed a little bit.

Does it have a distinct chemical smell?

None whatsoever and it is a good tight fit.

Will this case work with the battery grip attached?

No, it will not be large enough to accommodate a battery grip. Otherwise it is a good protective skin and the regular camera buttons are functional.
