This tool works excellent on fixed size baseball caps. Steps:1 - wet the inside cap rim first with hot water--do not soak the hat2 - install about 1/2 depth +/- and tighten by hand then final tighten center nut with 9/16" open end wrench--do not over tighten or you will break the cap rim band3 - let sit 12 hours or more adjusting tightness several times as the rim expands and checking fit as this will vary depending on cap/band/material and enlargement amount desired.

Great price, good quality hat stretcher. Size 6-8 barely fits a size 7 new era fitted. So any size smaller may not work.

Very simple design and worked perfectly.

The biggest issue with this is trying to keep the two wood pieces lined up with each other so they push evenly on the inside of the hat brim. You will also need a 14mm open end wrench to turn the center hex bar. I'll also suggest that you expand and contract the unit to get the threads loosened up a little before actually using it on a hat. Once you get everything lined up, it might help to have an extra set of hands to keep it that way or to actually tighten the spreader.Bottom line, it works and it's cheap. My once tight fedora now fits like a boss. Next up, the slightly tight cowboy hat.

As measured I'm a 7 3/8 hat size, but find NewEra 59Fifty cap sizing is generally tight and also inconsistent, with some being really tight. I don't want to go up to a 7 1/2 and have a loose hat. This hat stretcher, combined with a Bullard bump cap insert, and a bit of steaming, has become a routine for me to break in a new cap to get the size just right for my head. Watch some YouTube videos on how to use it and you'll end up with your perfect fit.

Nice quality. A hat stretcher is supposed to do just that… stretch the hat ti make it bigger. The bar with the thread at each end of it, is not quite long enough. My husband has it opened all the way and it often falls apart when he tries to adjust it.
