Very simple to use, and also very effective tool to have in the box for those hard to work out angles. There is a battery hidden in the packaging which I realised after digging out the recycling bin...

500mm refers to the closed size. The steel legs form a metre rule. The actual angle measuring device is small compared to the rule so there is little chance of the screw-down providing enough force to lock the legs. An electronic lock on the reading would have been better but this can be achieved by pressing the "zero" button at the required angle which then becomes the new "zero". Closing the rule causes the measured angle to be displayed (measured from the "new zero".Although the meter has an on/off button the device also switches on when the legs are separated, even slightly. I intend to put an elastic band over the free ends to hold the legs together when not in useConsider finding or making a box to protect the device when not in use and using it only as a delicate measuring instrument. Probably a regular sliding bevel will work for most purposes, will lock to the required angle. and was good enough for most craftsmen to date.I have given 5 stars because it works, but for how long probably depends on how careful I can be when using and storing it.Do not throw away the packaging immediately, the battery is located in a bottom corner and the detailed instructions are on the inside of the folded card backing.

So intermittent and inaccurate, should have sent back straight away, but then it started working, now it’s dusty and I don’t have packing and not working again

Can't get these locally anymore, only cheap knock offs which don't last. My other trend angle finders have lasted years of use and abuse without any real issue.
