4.5 Stars really. Not instant lighting but.............
I purchased one box of these to try them out as others are in short supply until Sept. I would not call them instant lighting as the first one I lit using a cooks blow torch took a good 20-25 minutes to get up to speed for cooking with pretty much zero smoke, whereas a cobb one would be ready in under 3 minutes using the same method. The second one I tried I used a single wrapped zip firelighter and it was ready to cook in 10 minutes but did smoke until the fireligher burnt out. Now for the but... Once you have these up to speed they give off a great amount of heat for way longer than a cobb stone, I cooked a large chicken to perfection in 2 hours and when I went outside after dinner the thing was still giving off enough heat to easily bake bananas for dessert. I went straight back online and ordered 5 more boxes to see me through until September when the new cobb ones should appear for sale, now they will be interesting as they have had to redesign them to meet new regulations, I bet they will not light as quickly as the old ones when they come out!!

It will be a miracle if you can get these lit and hot enough to cook on.
Oh how I wish I hadn't ordered 3 boxes of these! They are dreadful, took several goes to light, they are no way hot enough and so feeble, the tiny amount of fat from the lean sausages I was attempting to cook made one of them go out. I gave up and put everything in the oven. When we got up the next morning we noticed that neither of the briquettes we used had burned out - they had exptinguished themselves. I think the name is because it will be a miracle if you can get them to blaze. Save your money. Anyone want ten, useless briquettes? Might make a nice black doorstop for someone you don't like?

Cheap and effective
Good

Disappointing
Although I thought these were the same as the last pack, they were very slow to ignite and didn't give off much heat.

Lighting Gel
Could not get them to light, had to use lighting gel underneath. But once burning lasted hours, useable heat for at least 3 hrs. Was still giving off heat ( not enough for cooking) for several more hrs.

Five Stars
Fantastic on our camping bbq. A nice even heat .

Three Stars
They didn't work particularly well, would have just been easier to use coals.
