Being John Malkovich [DVD] [2000]

Leftfield film
Mad story by Charlie Kaufman. Well directed by Spike Jonze. I watched 'Being John Malkovich' in the cinema 18 years ago with my ex-girlfriend. I remembered that I loved the film as a quirky, unique story, with brilliant visual work, fantastic script and excellent acting - so seeing it again on DVD, I was suprised to find that none of my memories were falsely exaggerated - this is a great film.9/10PS. My ex-girlfriend did not enjoy the film.

Still a Mindblowing Classic
My husband had never seen this, though I have seen it at least 3 times. As I wanted him to watch "Adaptation" by the same screenwriter, I made him watch this first, as you sort of have to know the references back to it, to get the "inside jokes" of "Adapation". I still absolutely loved it, and my husband did, too. It's clever, funny, disturbing, and sad, with stellar performances all round.

Profound, clever, philosophical.
In my top five films of all time.Having read the negative reviews it seems they fall into two categories "difficulty in understanding a plot", and "unlikeable characters". Indeed none of the characters are your typical hollywood heros, but that's because this isn't a typical hollywood film. The characters have depth in multiple dimensions of human nature, and so they are not clearly definable as good or bad, as most people are used to in hollywood. As for plot, again it doesn't follow a straightforward hollywood plot line, the narrative, point and symbology is complex and intricate. The philosophical points being made are probably far too deep and confusing for the average person of our idiocracy. Concepts such as shared consciousness, the notion of self, life after death, self direction, free will, etc.

Good entertaining movie, worth watching
There's one thing for certain, you haven't seen anything like this before! John Malkovich is a very good sport, He takes on the personality of the person in possession of him while he himself is pushed into his own subconscious. haha confusing yes, but you do have to love the guy for having the guts for this movie. The gender issues and storyline are amusing, funny yes I did laugh.

Oscar nominated
This film must be unique in just about every way, nearest comparison I can think of is, a bit like Alice going down the rabbit hole. Very imaginitive movie, cannot begin to explain it, but it has John Cusack and Cameron Diaz and, obviously, John Malkovich and is brilliantly directed by Spike Jonze.

Good film- Appalling sound quality
This film is crazy and really funny. Its a fairly surreal comedy, imaginative and examines the experience of being in a kinda perverse way! Just wish the sound wasn't so sh*t could hardly hear it had to hold my laptop up to my face and there were no subtitles.

Being creative!
What would you expect from a movie in which someone finds, in the seventh and a half floor of a building, a kind of portal to the mind of the actor John Malkovich that makes it possible, for those who enter, to see the world through John Malkovich's eyes, for fifteen minutes? A lot of creativity, isn't it? That's it! I'm not kidding! This movie really exists and it is called "Being John Malkovich". And, if there is one movie that we can call creative, this is the one."Being John Malkovich" is probably the most creative film ever made. Directed by the video maker Spike Jonze, it will prove to you that being your own self is the best idea, even if you ever wanted to be someone else, with a brilliant and extremely original screenplay that surprises you from the beginning until the last minute of the film. What about John Malkovich being John Malkovich? Got confused? Watch the movie and you will be asking yourself how can a person create such a creative movie. You will not believe in what you will see, specially if you see it through your own eyes.

Film bellissimo.
