Captive rings are one of the truly "neat tricks" in turning. You'll have the uninitiated wondering how you did it. Nice for adding a bit of whimsy or visual interest to pieces. The 6' long blade on this version from Crown is double beveled, making it possible to cut both the right and left hand sides of the ring with the same tool. The 1/2" size refers to the bead diameter of the tool tip. Tool is approximately 15" long over all. Stained beech handles. Instruction sheet included. England

Double sided tool
I usually use Robert Sorby English turning tools. The Sorby ring tool must be taken apart and reversed to cut the opposite side of the ring. This Crown tool is also English made and will cut both sides of the ring by simply turning the tool over. This tool and other Crown tools uphold the quality tradition of English made lathe tools.

Love it
It came super sharp right out of the box. Love that it came with tips/instructions for us newbies. Made the process of making captive rings simple.

very nice tool
Bought the 3/8" first and loved it so bought the 1/2 " couple days later. Nice heavy made tools and they work great! I made a couple homemade tools years ago from allen wrenches to make captive rings but these make the job so easy and do a much better job. The day I received the tool I turned a goblet using Chechen wood, with 3 captive rings on the stem and I was amazed none of them broke and they all turned out very even and nice looking. I previously only made 1 ring with my homemade tool and broke more than I want to admit doing it. These tools make the job easy and professional looking. I highly recommend this tool. Vendor was fast with delivery also. NO complaints and happy with purchase.
