Not as in-depth as I had hoped.
I hoped there would be more detailed information on judging what size wick to use. I also wanted more detailed information on using/blending essential oils. What about things like natural spices, i.e. ground cinnamon? Can this be used safely in a candle? I would also liked to have seen more projects for recycled/reused wax from old candles and recommendations when blending different types of wax from these leftover candle bits, especially if making a pillar candle.

Good start
I loved how this book was set up! The chapters make it so easy. If you are new to the trade then you will need this book! Helpful hints and explanations.

Nice projects for soy
This was a lovely book, a pleasure to read, nicely laid out, with a range of projects according to wax type (a logical way to set the projects out). The only way this could have been better is if the projects were rated more overtly for beginner, advanced etc - ie some of the projects later in the chronology gave step by step instructions for beginners, whereas earlier (and perhaps harder) projects' instructions assumed this knowledge. Nevertheless, I came away with great ideas and a practical knowledge of how to create candles I hadn't even imagined were possible - I have been inspired to step away from container soy candles, and branch out into the chunk pillars - I've now bought a pillar mould and palm wax as a very different direction. Also, I display this book on my market stand, and people love to read about natural waxes.

Decent book.
Some good ideas. Overall decent book. There's probably much better out there but this is good for the starting hobbyist.

Not bad
There aren't too many books available that cover natural waxes, so I was glad I stumbled across this one. On the first reading, it did seem a bit basic; but then again I do seem to have a ridiculous number of books on candles at this stage, so some of the ideas were a bit old hat. Also, it only covered palm oil, which I'm not sure you can get very easily, beeswax and soy wax. There was nothing about other waxes such as rapeseed, etc. It's very much geared towards an American market; but if you've ever used an American cookbook, it should give you very little trouble. On the second reading, it improved a little. It's aimed at beginners, which is great. Everything is explained very well, and if you've never made candles before, you'll soon be on your way. Just follow the recipe, pour them out and let them set. There are also some more advanced projects.I was disappointed that there wasn't more about wicks, but that's common to all or most of the candle books that I've read; and a lot of candle websites give advice about choosing wicks so it's not a great problem. However, if you're just a beginner, starting out, it would be nice if the book covered it in more detail. Saves a lot of guesswork, time and money.

Looks like a Great Book for Learning about Candlemaking
I purchased this book as a gift for someone who wanted to learn about candlemaking. What drew me to it were the illlustrations and clear instructions. Nicely presented.
