A half hearted attempt
A very dissapointing account of muay thai fighting in Thailand. This title had the potential to become a great story however the author gives a half hearted effort, he seems to fail at every hurdle and just when you think he is going to overcome the odds he quits and gives up therefore ending the book. I would have had much more enjoyment reading an account of somebody who actually took training seriously and devoted all his time and effort into the sport not someone who attended a few muay thai classes and claims to be a Thai boxer (sparring a couple of times does not class you as a fighter). As much as i admire the author for turning his back on drink, I ended feeling sorry for him throughout the whole story as he gives a full life story on his past. This book should be named " the man who attempted muay thai, failed and wrote a book on it".

A bit disappointing
A well written book, interesting with nice insights into muay thai, but the ending is a bit disappointing. You buy a book like this for motivation or escapism with a climactic ending. This book certainly has no climax just a premature fizzle.

Don't buy it.
A full of himself Irish fella trying to do a martial art, SPOILER: Soft twat doesn't even fight.

Misleading title, but generally an enjoyable read
This is more a redemption story leading on from the author's first book about his struggle with alcoholism than about fighting and training in Thailand, so don't expect any massive insights into Muay Thai.

Not a bad book but not a good book
This book is not what i expected.. im a guy that visits thailand and trains muay thai.the fella paul seems nice enough and has obviously had his problems (fair play to him for gettin through them) but all the way through this book its kinda a half hearted attempt to learn and train muay thai towards a fight (that never happens)...alot of excuses why he cant do it in the end..not to in depth on the training or muay thai life..and drifts off alot into stuff i personally wasnt intrested in reading..as the title says its not a bad book but could have been so much better.

I love Muay Thai
I love Muay Thai. Like the author im a middle aged man who has trained and lived in Thailand. All the ingredients are there for an interesting story but for some reason the story never gets out of first gear and ends up just boring the reader to death. Nothing happens in the narrative. There is no interesting character's or tales to tell. There is no happy or sad ending. Reading it I feel like im just making small talk in a gym with someone I feel I should find interesting but in reality just bores the arse of me.

No insight, no story
First of all, this is not about a Muay Thai fighter. It's about a guy who trains a couple of times a week, has a couple of sparring sessions and quits without ever having a fight. There's no real insight to anything. He tells us about how he met with a nutritionist and lets us know he gave better info than the internet but didn't share any of this information. He told us some of his trainers taught him some techniques but doesn't tell the reader what they were in any detail. He gives a few of his views on the world and about Thailand but this is like a bad blog, nothing remotely publishable about this story.
