Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual

Very poorly made
I mean it's physically poorly made. The book can barely open without damaging itself. The actual content I've read inside is very interesting, but I read it seldom and little because it's cheap garbage.Get it digital or save your money. Physical copy is a solid F. I regret wasting my money.

Ok, some cool stuff
This could have been really good tech Manuel, as is it's so so. Big Aliens Fan, think the second movie is The best. That said, one of the Major flaws is the hand drawn art. With TONS of amazing Alien(s) art work available the art they used was actually fair ly mediocre. In the Manuel they go over the Smart Rifle and Servo Harness fairly well, but do not go over the munitions used.Ship (Sulaco, Dropship) specs are fairly good, but this munual could have been so much better.Second read through: Upped the review on second read through, although quality is just ok, was still a very entertaining read through.

Great asset for the Alien franchise fan, and anyone who wants to know more ... Do you wish to know more?
Invaluable (fake) technical information for fans and fan-fiction writers in the Alien franchise (Weyland-Yutani era). Sound technological approaches with the small arms, explosives, and support weapons (like USMC tanks, which were never featured in any movie thus far) are presented, along with unique views, like firing the M56B Smartgun while lying parallel to the ground. Space combat is covered with a horrifically brusque and no nonsense approach - if you are expecting something like "Star Wars" or even some of the earlier (pre-JJ Abrams) "Star Trek" movies, then you can kindly GTFO. This technical manual grounds itself into as much reality as we know it back then, and much of it still holds true today.Sprinkled throughout the technical sections and tables of organization (we learn the Colonial Marines have three operational divisions, for example) are snippets of Colonial Marine radio chatter and a corporate espionage team trying to find out what was the nature of the "thing" found on the planet in Aliens (the second movie). With this technical manual and the excellent Dark Horse crossover, Alien Vs Predator (with Mariko Noguchi and the plight of Prosperity Wells), most people should have a solid grasp of the Weyland-Yutani governed corporate universe. While much of it is pleasant enough, not everything is benevolent.

Great supplement to movie
This was a well-imagined and -written supplement to what we saw onscreen. Makes you want more.

Quick and simple review
I ordered the book right off the bat when i saw it,expecting a rich detailed book with lots of schematics and detailed info on the USCM...And im a little disappointed to be honest. Dont get me wrong, there is lots of information on the organisation of the corps, the gear used etc,but its much more text-rich than image-rich. There is almost zero schematics, aside the UD40 dropship, most of the iconic gear from the movies is unexplored in favor of less known equipment such as missiles and radar systems. A few sparse images here and there illustrate quickly the given topic but are only there to block out the walls of text contained within. If you're looking for detailed information, this book is both good and bad. Its a strange combination of in-depth information and a lack of detail (like mentioned) on the things that made the Colonial Marines stand out. For a few quick examples, the pulse rifle and the smart gun are treated to two quick diagrams (no exploded views, just a lineart picture) and a page of text each, while complicated radar systems of the dropship get a 3 to 5 page covering. The iconic APC is glanced over in a page or two as well. Personally, its a lack of imagery and actual description of the important gear used in the films that brings points down on this book.Otherwise,i'd still recommend it to anyone looking for more insight into the heart of the USCM,just dont expect to know more than you already do. :(

A "must have"? Eh...
Bought this site-unseen since I was so hyped to get a "technology" book based on the ALIENS movie. My overall review is just "eh..."There is an absolute ton of detail, but it's written as a tecnical-manual (boring). I was expecting more pictures/diagrams/exploded views. I was really looking forward to seeing some detailed pics of the smart gun and the motion tracker, but there are only a couple of cursory pics, and a "history" of how the new stuff was better than the original. ehI can't deduct stars from my review since the book was not what I expected, so I'll still give it 4 stars based on the solid amount of work they put into this book. But I'll deduct one star for what I think is a big miss on what a really entertaining fiction-tech book can be.

Great
Read some negative reviews so wasn't sure what to expect but it's great, don't understand the grumbling at all. Excellent for a fan of the series.

Like a photocopy of the original
Terrible quality print. Like the cheapest photocopy onto the cheapest recycled paper they could find. Binding is awful, pages aren't even cut straight. This cant of cost more than the price of the 2nd rate photocopier and old cereal boxes used to make it.

FANtastic
Here is a must for any Aliens fan. well thoughout with great insight into the world of the colonial marines, their equipment and thier tactics. Great pictures and illustrations that only enhance what James Cameron brought to the life in the Alien universe. This manual takes you through squad tactics, use of weapons and their tec specs, dropship and APC designs and specs and even space warfare tatics than just for good measure the reports that the company have received about the new alien lifeform thats been found on LV 426.
