This is the best of Brandon. Such an invigorating tale. Really, touched my soul. Enchanted.I'm so happy that he took up the secret project. In some way, he's Tress

Loved it.
A simple yet entertaining tale. It was a bit different from the usual sanderson novels, yet just as good.PS: Must read for Cosmere fans. You will meet a certain character.

Unique storytelling
Okay first, this book is from Hoid's POV, making it a unique cosmere books as you don't get the normal narrative but Hoid's convoluted one. If you enjoyed Wit's shenanigans in Stormlight, you will definitely love this book. Hoid's POV was so refreshing and chaotic! Two, this is a love story, yes. It says in the acknowledgements that the inspiration for this story is the Princess Bride. "What would've happened if Buttercup had gone searching for Westley instead of immediately giving him up for dead?"Three, cool magic system. It can be read as a standalone since this is our first time visiting this world, but it does reference other cosmere plants and beings. Also, Tress collects cups from different places because each one contains a story in them. Hence, the endpapers.

Five stars!!!
when I saw the blurb for this , I seriously did not think it would end up being an all time favourite comfort read with the exact vibes I have been in search of this past one year! Perfect character development, perfect found family vibes, perfect heroine, the most perfect whimsical fairytale vibes, perfect everything!!!! I loved everything about it!! I am not going to mention anything further so as not to spoil but pick it up ppl!!!!!!! It’s sooo good.

Great, simple story. But oh the poor humour and philosophical tangents.
The story reads like a rather long fairytale. Definitely not an epic fantasy story, nor action packed. There is a girl who will give her life to save the boy she loves, and that is literally the crux of the story. On the way she encounters multiple difficult situations that she luckily finds ways to solve. Plus, another one of Brandon Sanderson's innovative magic systems. Pluses: Lots of Hoid and small disjointed hints about Adonalsium and other characters from other planets for the Cosmere fans to dig into, yay! But those who are reading the book as a standalone will be very confused for sure about some of the characters, and may find their acceptance by the humans of this world a little too unbelievable.Hoid narrates the story, but due to certain, uh, circumstances, his presence is irritating (for me) and filled with poor jokes that I guarantee you will not even chuckle at.There is a dragon, for the first time (I think?) in any Cosmere book! Don't worry, not much of a spoiler. The ending played out also like a fairytale, but we saw a very small amount cool Hoid action! The narrative had a lot of philosophical tangents about1. Hoid wishes more heroes looked twice before they leaped.2. Hoid thinks people who are nice are better than people who are not nice. (Paraphrasing some of the long rambling paragraphs that really have nothing to do with the progression of the story. I almost just skipped reading them.)3. Hoid thinks mental health issues are real.... And so onWhile I agree with Hoid, and I truly have sympathy and would help those who are suffering - why are these long drawn out philosophical paragraphs appearing in a fairytale fantasy story anyway? They serve no plot point.Apart from that, great story! Easy read! Nice heroine, and great inventive magic system once again by Brandon Sanderson! Definitely give the book a read if you're a Cosmere follower. For other's, this is more a beginner to fantasy type of book.

It’s a good book but my grievance is over the package
Dust jacket is full of scratches and dirty finger prints … should have bought it in-person somewhere in a good book store.

Love this! Favourite Sanderson book!
This book is brilliant. Nuggets of profound wisdom, insight and philosophy subtlety delivered in a cheeky and entertaining story. A totally different and fascinating world, this story takes the familiar elements of an adventure fairy tale and makes them feel exciting and novel. I have read most of Sanderson's books now and this is my favourite. Well worth the read!

5/5
The first of brandon sanderson’s secret cosmere projects was everything for me. This story is truly unlike any other that brandon has created before, for so many reasons, but mostly because it reads like a fairytale! This is inspired by The Princess Bride, which I actually have never read before, but it didn't hinder my reading experience whatsoever! And just seeing some long time favorites from the cosmere world, and some cameos and name drops that I was not prepared for, felt like coming home - even if this setting is one that I would have never anticipated! But… dare I say, because I know this is a keyword everyone is looking for these days… this was cozy fantasy perfection! You do not need to read any other book in the cosmere to read this story, but you will miss out on so many easter eggs throughout and i am not sure if not having that appreciation will hinder your reading experience - so here is a little warning, in case!To put this very briefly, this is a story about a girl who leaves the only home she has ever known to brave a very strange ocean, in a very different cosmere world, with a very sweet pirate crew (for the most part), for love. Because at the end of all my favorite types of stories, it’s always for love and it’s always worth it.But I so quickly fell in love with Tress and her teacups and her story. Also, if you’ve been following my reviews for a while, you will know how much I adore a questing storyline and this book delivered that and more so! I also feel like every cosmere series has such a perfect and different found family, yet you always feel like you are a part of that family as well, and it’s so beautiful each time, but this one was extra close to my heart.I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the second secret project, because the bar has just been set so very high for me. (plus howard lyon is one of my favorite magic the gathering artist so it was extra perfect for me!) I also have a very soft spot for the character who narrates this story… and to keep being secretive… I loved the whimsy of this story extra, too! muhahahahah!I predict this will probably make my best of 2023 list, because my heart overflows more and more each time i think about this story. It just felt so warm and cozy and was filled with so much light and hope - and that’s exactly what I want to be reading in my life right now.

One if my favorite books ever!
I'm quite familiar with Sanderson's work, but this one has become a favorite of mine very quickly. His humor really comes through, if you have read Alcatraz vs the evil librarians, it's just like that but a bit extra. And I love it.
