Nice little chiller but not out & out scary
This isn't a bad little horror. As a horror fan I found it enjoyable, the plot is interesting but has been done before, in slightly different ways. (Most unfortunately with Darkness Falls!) Also the big names in this (Billy Burke & Maria Bello) sort of get 'psycho' treatment. Which lets the less well knowns take the bull by the horns, & do not such a bad job. Very entertaining. If you want to know more read on.Spoiler Alert, the story.Mum as a child was in a mental institution & befriended an (evil) girl with a skin condition of sensitivity to bright light called Diana. Diana dies while being treated for her condition. ( Spontaneous human combustion, no less) this turns Diana into a malevolent entity who wants mum to herself.Present day, mum goes off her meds, Diana reappears (apparently Diana's only around when mum is off her meds & weak) stepdad tries to organise an intervention, Diana bumps him off for his trouble (Diana can only operate in the dark, bright lights burn, ie; Tooth fairy from Darkness Falls scenario!) Little brother sees Diana, is scared, can't sleep. Big sis comes in to help little brother, has mum issues as she had to deal with mums Diana obsession when she was young. Also sis has a sort of boyfriend. Little brother stays with sis for night,Diana pays a visit, gets returned day after by social worker to mum, runs off after another visit by Diana, returns with big sis & boyfriend to mum's home & Diana's favourite haunt for the final act of the film, involving lots of lights out scenarios & police coming at the end.The film as I said before isn't bad. It at least keeps Diana in the shadows & the dark for most of the film. But it does disappointingly reveal her towards the end. (Modern horror usually fails to understand that an individual's imagination is far more scary than anything you can put on the screen!) There are however enough jumps & scares to keep it interesting & the mental health issue mum has is nicely portrayed. Also her friendship with Diana seems to be crucial to the plot. However, the deleted scene in big sis kitchen with little brother probably should have been in the movie as it was a much better scene than was actually edited in. But the alternate ending was far too corny for words & would have made this schlock horror instead, glad they kept it the way they did. Overall a nice little chiller that didn't scare me witless, but wasn't boring either.

Jumps from the start - but a rushed storyline
I suppose you cannot have a careful unwinding storyline as well as an intense scary horror.Plenty of jump moments from the start. This caught me out and caused me to actively scream like a jessie. Which is the main aim of this style of movie. However, the storyline was a rather rushed affair and no room for character development was factored in. Which is a shame because the monster itself could been good enough for a series of films. Had the story been more slowly unwinding and we could have been left with questions of origin at the end of the film.

Good ghost film(not horror)
I am writing this review as a lover of horror films. Firstly i enjoyed this film, but i wouldn't call it a horror film, more a ghost story. The film itself is very short by today's standard (about 78 minutes). Having watched it i also watched the deleted scenes - which last about 14 minutes. I fully understand the producer/director wanting a film that is direct and to the point but to me the deleted scenes should have been left in as they help explain some of the story line. As i said i enjoyed the film, I did give it 4 stars but the deleted scenes should have been left in.

Great stuff.
This is a belter of a film; so often modern day horrors do not live up to those in past years with the exception of Insidious, Sinister and The Conjuring series of films.Well acted, not overly long- 77 minutes and good storyline.Apparently Lights Out 2 is also in production; that will also be worth checking out.

Very disappointing.
A totally unbelievable and rather tedious daft movie. They should have left in the cut scenes you find in the Extras - they give the film some depth at least.

About time a film actually makes you jump!!!
At the age of 35 it’s been too long since I watched a really good scary film that will actually make you jump and freak out a little... well this truly did all those! What an amazing film!! Have no issues watching again a few times more!!!

Good Film.
A well made horror film ,some very jumpy moments especially if you got surround sound speakers , similar in style to Darkness Falls and if you like that film then you will like this one .
