Very complete repair kit. Excellent Value
After looking over the options and checking on the reviews for the repair kits I settled on this one. It is a very well rounded kit with enough wire staples for dozens if not 100's of repairs. 9 different styles of staples are included in individual plastic bags. The instructions say the staples are the "patented" slit design that can be removed by hand but those with the kit are not that style. Also 5 sheets of 6" x 8" very fine mesh stainless screens which should make exceptionally strong repairs. The gun heats the staples quickly and the 2 included "smoothing" attachments seem to heat up and work as expected. There is a fairly decent "snap away blades" utility knife that has many spare blades included inside the handle of the knife but it is a rather confusing thing to get back together if you take it apart. The locking thumbscrew for the utility knife had fallen from the end of the knife and was floating free amongst the other parts. It went right back but do not over-tighten as both the thumbscrew and the metal of the knife are pretty soft and the threads will strip with too much torque. Seven different types of plastic repair rods are sent including 2 types I have not seen before: Polycarbonate (reminds me of clear plexiglass) and a softer clear polyurethane rod. The dykes inside the kit are nice heavy cutters but the back-angle on the cutting jaws will not allow the staples to be cut flush with the surface of the plastic and create a real skin ripping point just waiting for you to get into it. I would recommend buying one of the flush cutting dykes like the little blue Kline Tools pictured. They will remove more of the tails from the staples but even with flush cutting dykes a pass with a small grinding stone in a rotary tool will provide snag free repair. The gun itself has an LED light which may help when working in poor lighting and since these are basically soldering guns the technology used in them has been around for decades. It should last a very long time if you do not push it too hard and allow it to cool down while doing large repairs. In other words keep the duty cycle low to prevent overheating. Other reviews point out if you lean on it too hard the gun will melt. Do not make that mistake. Last thought is the included case will allow you to keep it all in a small compact enclosure.

Wow - had no idea fixing stuff was this much fun!
Loved the versatility of the kit, came with loads of staples, and I purchased another bag at the same time as I had several things needing repairs. What surprised me was I was able to repair a 25 year old plastic lawn - bench chair, that was dangerously broken to virtually new, and no sign of loss of strength or fit. Yes, it was old, but had a blast learning how to use it, and worked way beyond my expectations. Fixed dozens of things now

Works very well on the right kind of plastic
PROS:Heats up very quickly;Pretty easy to fit in the included staples; They included plastic. Welding rods worked well;CONS:This can easily distort and completely discolor and dit, texturize, and a plastic that it will work on successfullyI use this device to repair/retrofit an automated pet feeding bowl which had a double opening set of top doors. One of the doors latches to help hold it closed and lock it broke off, so use this device to weld the two doors together so they could open as one unit. Using the metal staples was very easy it was just a matter of inserting them into the holes at the tip of the rods that come out of the gun, and then pulling the trigger to pass the current to cause the staple to heat up and melt its way into the plastic. The thing to remember about doing this is that any texture that the surface of the plastic may have if you’re going to be doing this from the viewable side of the plastic Will definitely be lost. In addition, as you push the metal into the plastic, the plastic pushes itself away from the metal, creating a kind of valley where the metal pushes itself in. You’re doing it from the backside of a decently thick plastic then this won’t become much of an issue , and if you intend to sand and repaint the surface of the plastic afterwards, this also might not be too much of an issue, but you will have to make sure that the end of the staple is somehow cut a little bit deeper than the surface of the plastic that might be viewed. All in all for the purposes, that I finally use this tool, for it did exactly what I needed, and I wasn’t terribly concerned about how it looked in the end because certainly my pets will not care what the outside of the dish looks like so long as the dish opens and they get to the food that’s inside of it in a timely fashion as per their internal clocks.I could definitely see using this to repair plastic body parts and components on vehicles provided the repair and stitching was being done from the outside, so as not to distort the viewable surface of anything that you were attempting Repair on.
