My kids read both for school (they have to choose home reading then write reports), these books were my favorite in high school. I am so glad they are reading them as well. 1984 is more of high school maturity level content but animal farm is fine for middle schoolers or high schoolers.

I heard a conversation on language use and misuse in this era and saw this duo reprinted for the 50th anniversary of George Orwell’s books. Great price…my books have not yet been unpacked from a move, but I couldn’t wait. Necessary for our inverted media world to recognize truth.

Do not be deceived by the listing. The cover art was totally different from advertised. I still will enjoy the books but feel duped by the marketing here. Books also came packaged with zero protection in package which could lead to damage. So be mindful

It's scary how prescient Orwell was in writing these two books, especially 1984, given what the world around us is quickly becoming.If you've heard people use the phrase "Orwelian" or refer to something as "1984" you really should read this book, especially if you are one who uses those phrases and hasn't actually read the book.The parallels to our modern world today truly is frightening. You may think NEWSPEAK and DOUBLETHINK are only something in this novel, but I promise you are living through it today.The ministry of plenty, the ministry of truth and the ministry of love are all active in our world today to varying degrees, though they only seem to be getting stronger year by year.Do yourself a favor and read this book if you haven't.

I read these years ago. It seemed appropriate for our times, to read themagain, however frightening they are. I justhope it never becomes reality.
