Cheap fix
My hotpoint BD31 oven tripped out our electrics and then after power was restored the oven would no longer heat up. I made the assumption it must be the heating element so I ordered this one from Amazon and swapped it over and now oven working perfectly. Easy to fit, takes around 10 minutes.

Easy to fit
New element arrived 2 days before expected delivery, great.A bit of effort to undo back plate screws on a 19 year old oven but once done able to fit new element without a hitch. TIP, before detaching old one put clothes pegs on to each wire to stop them disappearing back down the hole at back of oven from whence they came👍Complete job done at a cost of £11.14 I am now going out to a slap up meal with the money I’ve saved on an electrician.

Worked as good as new!
What I liked is that it was well packaged and arrived very quickly after ordering, which is important when you need your oven for cooking! If you follow some you tube clips if not confident how to install but is so easy, just make sure you turn power supply off when working with any electrics...this saved me paying for extortionate labour costs for some else to fit which was essentially was a 5 mins job! Good product and worked a great, oven as new again.

Power was tripping, but this solved it.
As much as you can love a replacement oven element, I gave it 5 stars. My old one was tripping the electrics a few minutes after turning it on, and thought for the price I'd give changing it myself a go. Dead easy, Turn off Cooker Switch (and test), remove light cover, undo 4 screws. remove back plate. undo 2 more screws to loosen element. TIP: I tied string to the two spade connectors to stop them disappearing inside the oven. pull the spade connectors off and do all in reverse with the new element. Took 10 mins (most of which was looking for string!) I did put a drop of WD40 on the fan as it seemed to be spinning slow initially, but I've had no problems since. Good delivery and packaging too.

Not long-lived enough.
EDIT: This unit failed without 9 months.Huge pity as I had such high hopes. No shower of sparks, just blew the house fuse and stopped working one day.On inspection, there was no continuity so it failed internally.I bought a part from an alternative supplier and it is thicker and sturdier than this one.I think this item is simply a budget alternative that isn’t up to the job long term.Original review:Just moved to a house with a Hotpoint cooker. Within weeks the heating element gave up in a shower of sparks.Looked at YouTube and other sites to see what was involved. Turned out the process of replacing the element was a doddle.4 screws inside oven to remove back plate.2 more to remove the heating element retaining clamps. Then carefully pull off the electrical wires from the old and install on the new. Then rebuild.Initially the new element smelt terribly of burning plastic, but after a few minutes that passed and all was well.In short, this is a very easy DIY swap.A few days afterwards, I called an appliance engineer to ask for a quote for the job I’d done in 10 minutes.I was quoted £200+ VAT. £280 all in against the Amazon price. You’d be mad to get someone in to change this part, it’s a doddle.
