Illustrated World of Tolkien: The Second Age

I expected this book to be only OK, since it wasn't original art for the middle earth books.I was wrong. This book is amazing! The artwork is very high quality. I could look at each picture again and again and see new details. I loved the art.And then there is the text. Brief stories of how the art came to be. Brief explanations by the artists of their motivation. Brief histories of how the artists came to be involved.After starting this book, I had a really hard time putting it down.If you're a fan of Tolkien, you should get this book.

The art is fantastic and made an awesome gift for a big fan of the novels

I know David Day takes liberties a bit when it comes to die-hard Tolkien purists, but after seeing what others did with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Day is looking a lot better to me. It's a beautiful tome, with the expected plethora of illustrations and well-thought-out text.

Enjoyed reading the information in the book. It makes a nice compliment to other histories of Middle-Earth.

My husband is really into LOTR stuff and especially art so he was stoked to get this and seems to really love it so far. It’s a nicely bound book as well, looks great on a coffee table or study desk. Really nice find!

Bought this just for the gorgeous illustrations. I know Day isn't great with Tolkien lore, but it is a fun read. Beautiful pictures. Arrived on time and in good condition.

Originally bought the book from Costco (USA) as a Christmas present for my grandson in Belgium. Because of postage, VAT, Customs Duty and who knows what else, we decided to order another copy from Amazon DE and avoid all the red tape. The cover was different, but the book is the same and thankfully it's in English and not German. Haven't read it, but the illustrations are beautiful.
