A Great Place to Start
This book has a lot to offer someone new to drawing manga, chibi, and anthropomorphic characters. The book is over 100 pages and is quite sturdy. It is separated into 6 chapters:Chapter 1: The Basics, which discusses general drawing techniques, some color theory, illustrating techniques (both traditional and digital), materials (both traditional and digital), hairstyles, how to draw common poses, and tips about drawing clothing and accessories. Each section has simple easy to following drawing examples that help to illustrate (pun intended) the author's written explanations.Chapters 2-4 are each structured the same way: - Introduction to the type of character (Ch 2: Kemonomimi, Ch 3: Kemono - Fur and feather characters, Ch 4: Scalies - Reptilian and Amphibian characters) - Common trends and inspirations with example plates - Example facial features and how to draw the general structure of faces (including example plates) - Example facial expression (including example plates) - 3-4 tutorial drawings of the characters that are fully drawn and illustrated in the bookCh 5: Fursonas- This chapter explains what a fursona is and walks you through creating one. Like the other chapters that are some tutorials and example templates.Ch 6: Templates- Very little text, just some drawing templates for various poses, heads, and other character parts to use a reference tool.Overall this is a pretty solid drawing book. It outlines the process well and has many good tips. If you are interested in drawing these styles of characters, this book is a definitely a great place to start.

Great Intermediate Art Book
The Art of Drawing Manga Furries is a fun book for a more experienced artist. I would say this is better for someone at the intermediate level that is already familiar with standard drawing and sketching techniques. However, if you are a complete beginner you shouldn't be lost as the book does take the first couple of chapters to go over basic manga drawing techniques. The best features of this book are on drawing the various kinds of furry characters themselves. It has guides on your traditional cat girl and kitsune to covering scaly creatures and fursonas. I particularly liked how it covered the differences in human versus furry leg design. It also did a nice job going over scale and clothing design along with chibi style drawings. If you are looking for a nicely laid out art book with some quality instructions and guides, then The Art of Drawing Manga Furries is for you.

Excellent book to encourage the new cartoonist
I received this drawing book specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)This is a great book to take the aspiring artist from total newcomer to a moderate level of skill in drawing. The book deals with the popular and fun topic of Manga (Japanese comics) characters and adds some sweetness by picking furries or human/animal characters. The book starts with the basics of the equipment/supplies you will need to draw these cute characters.Next, it explains that there are degrees of "animalness" for Manga characters. Minor animal traits like ears or whiskers means the character is a kemonomimi. Full on animal characteristics that just happen to dress, walk, talk, and act like humans are kemono. The book made a special category for "scalies" that include reptiles and mythological creatures like dragons. There is a catch-all category called fursonas at the end that covers anything unique that the artist draws. The book talks through proportions, poses, facial expressions, and even nuances like enhancing the coloring of the characters.I love that the book has many stock bodies, heads, and other useful bits for the new artist to practice tracing and drawing on.All in all, this is a wonderful, fun, and educational book for drawing that would be perfect for your Manga, art loving, new artist.

Excellent reference for anthropomorphized animals
I have quite an extensive collection of art reference books, and own several other books on drawing "furries"/anthropomorphized animals. This book is a great place to start, as it has a general overview of the tools needed, shading/coloring techniques, and a list of different hairstyles. The book delves into basics of anatomy and showcases which types of animals are commonly used in these types of illustrations. There is information about facial expressions/emotions, ways to render different skin textures, and other details, such as ears and tails.A big chunk of the book consists of step by step illustrations that show how the author draws her characters. These are geared towards intermediate artists, as you do have to possess some knowledge about anime style drawing and anatomy in order to follow along.Overall, this book is a nice addition to my library, and is a great additional reference for this type of art.
