Great follow-up book to "Emergency Poet"
I liked Deborah Alma's previous book: The Emergency Poet so bought her 'The Everyday Poet' on spec. It has the same layout and a good selection of poetry. As a reader of poetry about 10% were already familiar to me but hey, I got 90% new stuff. Can't be bad.

Very special anthology
There are a few anthologies around which are designed to reach out to every reader and to make life better, but what makes this one really special is the wonderful, clear and straightforward linking passages between each section, and the fact that the poems included are not the old familiar ones that pop up in so many anthologies but poems new and unfamiliar that have been carefully sourced by the Emergency Poet, who dispenses poetry instead of medicine, after her relaxing consultations in her vintage ambulance. As a result of this experience, she knows which poems can help people cope with life's situations. Sections are titled with quotations from key poems and include topics such as enjoying nature, love and work. Poems are a mixture of classic and contemporary and each one earns its place within. Given that this is a hardback book and is beautifully made with a relaxing cover and smart dark green endpapers, the price is very reasonable and it makes an excellent gift, for someone you love or for yourself.

It’s a stunning little hardback with some fantastic poetry by everyone from William Wordsworth to Sylvia Plath
This one is yet another of the poetry books that I won as part of a National Poetry Day competition, but I have to say that I was impressed by it. It’s a stunning little hardback with some fantastic poetry by everyone from William Wordsworth to Sylvia Plath. In fact, the whole idea here is to create a collection of poetry that you can read for inspiration in your everyday life. They’re poems to live by, and it lives up to that.If I had to gripe, the only thing I’d say is that the section breaks are sometimes confusing because they’re in a very similar layout to the rest of the book, so I wasn’t really sure when I was going from one theme to another. Nevertheless, the actual poetry that’s involved in this collection is fantastic, a fun mix of classical and contemporary poetry that’s all about celebrating the life we live. Better still, it looks great on your shelves when you’ve finished reading it. So go get it!
