Good reference for BGP
provided a good overview for basic bgp configuration. Would have liked to see a bit more real word deployment examples.

Tried and True. One of the Best Beginner's Resources.
BGP is THE routing protocol of the internet and it is crucial that you develop a deep understanding of it if you wish to truly comprehend how everything works. Despite this, BGP does not get a lot of love when it comes to book publishers. There's a very limited quantity of books on the subject and sometimes it can feel like there's no appropriate place to "begin." That's why I'm so excited to have stumbled upon this book."BGP" by Iljitsch van Beijnum takes the complex subject of BGP routing and lays it out in an easily accessible format. Expect to find detailed examples, best practices, different perspectives (ISP vs Customer), and a very enjoyable read. The strength of this book is definitely in its broad scope and ease of access. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to delve into BGP for the first time. The only reason I've held onto the five-star rating is because frankly this book is old! With a publish date of September 2002, some of the text feels a bit dated. This is especially true for things that advance quickly with time, such as the processing capabilities of routers. I'd love it if the publisher were to revise the content, update it for today's environments, and re-release it as a second edition. Other than that, I can wholeheartedly recommend picking up this book. You won't be disappointed!

Good book, but very much targeted at Cisco
The concepts in the book are relevant, but every example given is for Cisco IOS. This might as well have been published by Cisco.

Not accurately portrayed
Book is over 20 years old and is more focused on small scale BGP implementation. Even states in the opening that if your looking for in depth or a full understanding of BGP to check the Cisco website instead of the book. Waste of money for the price when other similar priced books out there cover actual service provider implementation, this is more how to run BGP in a small setting like having dual connections in your private network at home.
