Surprisingly good
For over two years I've been looking for something that would keep my mouth closed at night so I snore less and get dry mouth less. I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, and the several chin straps I tried weren't that great by themselves, but also didn't work well with the CPAP mask. I was about to order one of those expensive mandibular devices when I saw there are tapes. I read the reviews for several and decided to try SomniFix.I didn't have high expectations, but after a week of use I can report that they work very well. It's very important to get the position just right, but once I did the strip stayed on, was comfortable, and was very effective at preventing mouth breathing after falling asleep. Note that it's very important that your lips and surrounding area are clean and dry before you apply the strip. I have a mustache but that did not prevent the strip from adhering, which was probably the most surprising thing. My CPAP machine is the kind that has a water reservoir to keep the air humid, but the humidity inside the mask did not prevent the strip from adhering. When I removed the strip in the morning, there was no adhesive residue. The instructions say you can take the strip off and off up to three times. I took it on and off once (to reposition it) and the adhesive still worked well. This is a good feature if for example you need to take oral medication at night. The strip itself is a mesh so it's possible for a small amount of air to get in and out, but you have to do this intentionally. My guess is it's a safety feature. But if you apply the strip correctly, your lips will remain sealed. One interesting thing to point out: Since the strips keep your mouth closed, your jaw can actually move a bit, which is much more comfortable than a chin strap. Before using these strips, I would wake up 4-6 times a night with a parched mouth, and I'd have to take sips of water, which contributes to extra peeing at night. With these strips, I only wake up three times a night, but that's related to my sleep issues. I don't need to sip water—actually it's not possible because the strips don't allow it.So overall I'm quite happy—and surprised—how well these strips work. The only downside, and the reason for only four stars, is the price. At the current Amazon price ($0.86 ea.) the annual cost is $314 a year. So I'm going to try one or two less expensive brands before making a final decision.

Pros & Cons
Back sleeper, mouth breather, slight apnea, mustache owner and wife claims I snore. It never occurred to me to tape my mouth shut. But Somnifix came to my attention I when trying to find it on Amazon there were innumerable products and discussions about mouth taping. I was quite surprised.Deiced to buy some and try it out. I've been using this for 23 nights. I can't give five stars because of CONS and especially my Definite Dislike comments below. But for now, I will buy more because of the Pros.PROS: I believe it does improve my sleep as I don't wake up tired when using it and Somnifix gives some scientific study reason why nose breathing improves sleep. Perhaps it true.Additionally, I used to wake up with dry parched mouth and throat not only in the morning but during the night so I always kept a glass of water on the night stand. These strips definitely ameliorate that and I don't need the water by the bed any more. It seems to cut down on snoring not 100% but a good improvement. They peel right off in the morning and so far have not caused any irritation from continuous use.CONS: I don't have a thick mustache. I usually keep it trimmed down to 1/16" every 3-4 days. If you follow the instructions how to form your mouth closure they generally stick all night. You will likely test the little air slit to see if you can breathe through your mouth so get over it after the first test :) Don't test it every night because spreading your lips will loosen the bond. If you have a thick mustache in my opinion these might not work for you. These come in a box of 28 strips. They are packaged like bandaids. I had some trouble the first couple of days getting them out of the paper until I noticed the little paper slit on one end. Just grab the corner of that end and tear the paper downward. No problems since I discovered that.Once they are out of the paper I find it tricky to separate the backing from the sticky strip that goes on your mouth. You'll have to just develop your own method there until you get the hang of it. Mine is to hold it vertical and use two thumps on the end edge until one thumb gets some of the sticky then slowly pull apart. The sticky side does have small tails on each end to help hold it and for placing on it your mouth.DEFINITELY DISLIKE THIS: They come in boxes of 28 strips. I'm pretty sure there is only one month in the year with 28 nights in it. Which means during a whole year you will come up 29 strips short and have to buy an extra box every years. I find this offensive since it can't cost very much to make these. Certainly not to the point where they have to bang me for an extra $19.99 a year by creating the false need to buy an extra box.Not to mention some of the strips have manufacturing issues so the sticky part sticks to the paper when you tear them open. I've had 3 casualties to bad packaging.TO THE MANUFACTURER:Put 32 Strips in the box. Cover a full month and allow for the occasional packaging failure. You're not fooling anyone with packs of 28 and should a competitor come around with a similar product who knows there are 365 days in most years and not 336 like you folks do; I'll drop you like a hot potato. Because every time I purchase I'm going to remember this. Marketing 101 folks; it's better not to give customers an unnecessary reason to dislike how you do business. You have a good product, act like it.Fix separating the adhesive strip side from the throw away backing. Why not simply split the backing with overhang like a bandaid. They open in 2 seconds and never fail. This month of 30 days, 3 of my 28 would not peel as they were permanently stuck to the paper covering so I get 25 pieces for the whole month. Maybe those 5 nights I have to go without I will get back in the habit of not buying them?

This product was a waste of time for me , because my mouth came open.I drool ( not attractive I know ) so that loosen the tape and it allows my mouth to open .I will keep using them till the packet finishes but will not be ordering them again.Might try masking tape.

very effective to stop snoring, but much more
My husband was always a snorer but in the past few years the snoring had been getting louder and more constant. He had lots going on in his life (stress at work, death in the family, etc) and was carrying too much weight. Suddenly, just over year ago he developed asthma - unexpectedly and, honestly, a bit scary. He initially went the medical route and went to all of the best respiratory experts who put him on the usual inhalers and prescriptions but never asked him a single thing about lifestyle, breathing, stress… nothing. While the prescriptions seem to help his asthma, they did nothing for his snoring and he gained a few pounds of weight rather quickly. So, we started to look for natural solutions. I ran into a Mike Mutzel video on mouth taping and found Patrick McKeown’s videos about Buteyko breathing on YouTube. We learned about how mouth breathing (day or night) can have really negative impacts on health, including contributing to asthma, allergies, snoring, tooth decay (!!). So, we both started mouth taping in Jan 2018. We started with 3M tape which worked well. Suddenly my husband wasn’t snoring Like that - over night. But there were a few problems. 1. It tore the skin off our lips and 2. I would wake up, take off the tape and find taped-in wrinkles on my mouth sort of like smokers lines!! It would take 20-30 mins for them to disappear. Eeek! 3. my husband said he felt a bit claustrophobic with it because the adhesive was so strong. In any case, I couldn’t continue with the 3M tape due to the skin being ripped off my lips every morning.I did some more research and found SomniFix and had some friends send it to us from the US as it wasn’t yet available in the UK. What a difference. The tape has just the right amount of adhesive so it sticks but doesn’t rip off skin or cause puckering lines once removed. So we carried on mouth taping with Somnifix along with Buteyko breathing principals (if you have a constant stuffed nose I would STRONGLY recommend you google "How To Unblock Nose in three minutes” and find Patrick McKeown’s video - this was life changing for my husband.) Three months after starting this programme my husband was symptomless and stopped his asthma medication. His doctors were stunned - his lungs had recovered complete capacity (at one point they said he was breathing with only 70% capacity.) He had cleaned up his diet too and had lost a half stone so surely being healthier overall helped. We see mouth taping (really, nose breathing) as absolutely essential to good health. That it stops snoring is a super positive side effect. But the overall health benefits of making sure you're breathing through your nose rather than your mouth has far reaching health benefits. Again, Patrick McKeown has some brilliant books published if you want to learn more about overall benefits of nose breathing.Somnifix is more expensive than 3M tape but, for us, the cost is negligible given the benefit.

Work for me
It's really weird to tape your mouth up and head off to sleep, however, these strips do their job. I found for the first few nights that I was very aware of my mouth being closed and took a little longer to settle, but within a few nights, it didn't even bother me. My partner noticed a massive difference in my snoring, that was a win. The only issue is that it's a bit overpriced but cheaper than a divorce.

Very comfortable to use
I’m still getting used to these. The first night I tried them I slept for 4 hours straight... which was wonderful as I often only manage a couple of hours at a time. But I reverted to a more normal pattern of a couple of hours at a time for the second and third night I used them. I’m focusing on nose breathing, so I guess these help me at night when I have no control! They are very comfortable and are easy to apply. I can easily peel them off and reapply if I need a drink in the night. If you are thinking of trying mouth strips, I would recommend you have a go with these. I will definitely continue to use them.
