Close to being perfect
My initial reaction to this product was less than positive. When I received it. I immediately unpacked it and turned it on. I placed the canvas in a portrait position above my fireplace. The first thing I noticed was vertical lines of static that sprang up at random. I next tried to connect Meural to the internet. I followed the steps and kept getting an error saying that the canvas was already registered to another user. So my first thought was that I was given a returned item. I called support and was given a very knowledgeable support person. It took us a solid hour of going back and forth between the canvas, the router, and the app before we eventually got it connected. Now here's an issue that Netgear needs to address. The mobile app does not have a wi-fi settings option. You can't just open the app and plug in your wi-fi info. In order to get this thing connected to the internet, you have to first do some convoluted waving to get to the proper settings on the canvas; load the mobile app; then you have to load a browser, type in an ip address, and then load a remote app, then scroll down and change the wi-fi settings in the remote app. Are you kidding me? This from a company that sells routers?Okay, so now were connected to the internet. But I'm still getting vertical lines of static. So I turn the canvas to landscape. Now I have horizontal lines of static. WTF? This thing cost me $700 with taxes and an insurance plan. It's going back tomorrow. The next day I get on the phone to support and it turns out that it's 4:30 pm on a Friday and no one is going to pick up. I'll have to wait until Monday to return it.In the mean time, I decide to load some playlists and create some playlists of my own photography. The images look fantastic. The lines of static are now intermittent. Waving up to get artist data seems to trigger it. I'm loving the whole concept of this device. If only I could get rid of these annoying static lines. After having the Meural up for several days and displaying personal photographs, classic art, modern art, curated museum picks, and just added space images, I'm absolutely loving this thing. It comes on and off on a schedule. If no one is home it goes to sleep. I can control it with my Alexa speaker. Best of all, I haven't seen any static lines in any images. This has the potential to be a winning product if they address the following issues: I shouldn't have to speak with tech support to do something as simple as connecting the canvas to the internet; if the product displays static lines that will eventually go away, let the user know; improve the way you handle uploads. I should be able to upload images into a folder so that the browser doesn't have to display every image I ever uploaded before I can upload new images. Update the phone app to include wi-fi settings.Update: The problem I had with lines of static in the image never did go away. After trying a software update, Netgear agreed to replace my product. The replacement process was straight forward. The new canvas works perfectly, however, I still had to jump through too many hoops just to get the canvas connected to wi-fi. This is a problem they need to address.

Don't buy Meural - Screen failed after 4 months, customer service is miserable.
The screen failed after 4 months of usage with 3 vertical white lines and thousands of pixels that flicker on/off with a green color. Been going back and forth with Netgear's overseas support and they keep harping on the firmware version of the screen even though it's running the latest version and there's no way the version of the firmware should be causing an issue like this. There's no number to reach them, you have to respond to email tickets a dozen times and hope they call you at a time when you can pickup. I've wasted a ton of time trying to get this RMA'd. Attached image is what the screen looks like after a total reset. The screwed up colors is not my camera, it's what the screen actually looks like.10/19/20: update, after many more volleys with Netgear support I threw the whole thing in the trash. After going around and around with them insisting I update firmware versions via email and me doing so, when I finally connected with them on the phone they insisted I do the same firmware resets and upgrades again on the phone. It's clearly cheaper for them to waste your time with outsourced overseas support than it is to repair or replace their broken hardware. This is easily one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in my last 10 years of buying consumer electronics.Stay away from this product.

The Image libraries require a subscription FYI.
The image libraries require a subscription that is not obvious from any of the marketing materials. It really is a beautiful way to view images but they are all cropped to fit the screen. The original image proportion is not available and Klimpt’s painting (and others) is poorly cropped. The app and web interface feel clunky and could use some refinements. It is a little challenging to get your own images into the Meural. The site doesn’t contain much helpful information.4 stars because it is beautiful but not perfect. I hope it improves but the user interface needs a usability upgrade. If the company reads this and has questions about my comments please contact me because I really want the product to be successful.
