Weston Manual Wheatgrass Juicer (36-3701-W), Cast Iron, Egronomic Handle and Table Clamp,Silver

I'll touch on the common complaints/concerns i noticed;ODOR: How bad could cast iron smell, right? IT WAS PUNGENT!! It had this strong chemical/paint/petroleum kinda smell. Guess what though, soap. Give it a few weeks of use and you'll be all-set. I didn't do any crazy deep cleaning beyond the initial day either. My juicer also remains attached to my counter, if you can't kick the smell try that.PAINT: I forget if there were a lot of silver chips in the box when i opened it, but so far so good on any such silver paint or paint chips coming off mine. I'll update if i need to.CLEANING: If you've used any other kind of juicer the difficulty of this one is a 2/10. For cleaning you loosen 4 screws, all of which are reasonably easy to tighten/loosen without a tool. If your looking for some more leverage keep a screwdriver handy. Ill occasionally use one if my juicer keeps slipping around due to a damp counter.RUST: Untreated metal rusts, plan accordingly. I use whatever cooking oil I'm closest to, and apply it by splashing a little onto a paper towel . After each use you need to wash and dry it, i treat it about every 3rd. Apply oil lightly and thoroughly, both the body and screw.LEAKS: 3 main problem areas. There is a thin white washer on the back of the screw part, you need to make sure it isn't folded over anywhere while you tighten the back on. The down spout also can be tricky if you don't have a low profile dish, try a glass custard dish - just needs to be wide mouthed. Lastly, the opening on the tapered end can drip a little at first. I always keep the end screw fully down and do a 1/2 flat daily. I yield at least 4 ounces despite my 'losses'. This juicer leaks less than the Wheateena one i'm used to too.

IT WAS GOOD

I actually haven't used mine yet. When I got it, I immediately washed it as per the instructions and some of the reviews here. The smell that the juicer came with did go away. But then I couldn't use the juicer because I had to plant wheat grass and wait for it to grow -- for some reason my grocery store suddenly stopped carrying it and they said it would be a few weeks before they could get more.So today I decided my wheat grass was tall enough. I opened the box that the juicer was in and phew! Did it stink! The smell was just as strong as when I unpacked it the first time. I decided to run some lettuce leaves through it to see if that would maybe wear off the smell.But when I assembled the juicer I discovered that a key part was missing. Unfortunately, when I got the jusicer I didn't actually compare what parts actually came with it and what parts were *supposed* to come with it... my mistake. Part number 7, "handle thumbscrew with cap washer", did not come with the juicer and I didn't notice that because the handle wasn't attached to the juicer when it shipped, presumably so it would fit into the box better.I went to Weston Products and readily found the part, but with the part + shipping, I'd pay nearly $15 more using the cheapest shipping option, which is outrageous for one bolt and a washer. So I'll get something from the local hardware store next time I'm in town, meaning I can't use the juicer today after all..I'm not a happy customer.[After attempting to use the juicer] OK, I officially hate it and have changed my review from 3 stars (benefit of the doubt) to 1 (no doubt at all - just useless). I took some photos after attempting to juice some regular grass. I used one of the bolts that hold the auger retainer to the body, since it also fits the handle thumbscrew. First, you can see I had to use a vise grip to take the place of the missing part. Maybe there is something special about the handle thumbscrew because there is nothing about the auger retainer that actually retains the auger to the body. The auger can slide back almost three quarters of an inch, meaning it just pushes wheat grass through without anything going through the strainer (see photo).Thus my juicer doesn't juice wheat grass, it mildly mangles it. I'm sure it's too late to send the stupid thing back. I've already thrown out the box and I don't want to even deal with it. Anyone want a free Weston manual wheatgrass juicer for spare parts? You pay for shipping and I'll find a box to ship what I have to you.[Edited again because I forgot the photos]

It got here rather quickly, considering I just chose the free shipping. Everything is well-made. I love being able to use a hand-tool for this. Went through approx 3 qt.s of carrot tops, no problem once we got the right tension figured out for the pulp pin at the end of it. Easy to clean. On a side note, make sure you use a solid stable surface, and have something at both juice and pulp exits to avoid messes.

I gave the product 4 stars because I really like the juicer, it does the job very well. It is always nice to find a product that does exactly what it is designed to do. What disappointed me was it did not fit on my counter and it did not fit on my table. I actually attached it to a small cheese cutting board and balance it on the center divide of my sink. That way I can crank it with my left hand and hold it down with my right. Works great that way and gives me a little workout. Another downfall is you have to wash / rinse it and dry it immediately after each use. Not a big deal I was hoping to be able to soak it and found that was not a good idea. Found some tiny rust spot on the outside after I tried the soaking method. Scrubbed it off and now i just make the immediate cleaning part of the juicing routine. Others have mentioned a strong paint odor when they open the package. I did notice an odor, I wouldn't say it smelled like paint to me, I would say it smelled "New". Anyway the instructions recommend washing it prior to the first use did that and the unpleasant "New" smell vanished! I would recommend this product to anyone who is new to juicing and does not want to make a huge investment in electric juicer.

Handle doesn't connect well, fastening screws were all different lengths, even though it is coated with paint we have rust coming through in multiple locations.Does not juice well, tolerances are all sloppy and juice comes out the end as well as the spout in the middle making it difficult to catch all the fluid. Only juices well with large quantities of grass 1 sq ft. of grass 7" tall made about a shot and a half.It does however clean easy and dismantles quickly.
