Shining Brass, Book 2: 18 Pieces for Brass, Grades 4 & 5, with 2 CDs (Shining Brass (ABRSM))

I'm really enjoying a return to form with this book and, because it's ABRSM, you can be sure of a versatile accompanying CD and the correct level of difficulty. I've tried and returned 2 other books where the accompaniments were synthesised or incomplete or used an annoying electronic sound to play the tune alongside intermittently.The CD with my book is pure, good quality professional piano and exactly as you would experience sitting the exams. I went to grade 6 cornet and grade 8 piano long ago. The demo versions of the tracks were very useful too, allowing me to listen carefully to the style, slurs, legato, staccato detail. Again, profession musicians really do play the tunes as they should be played under exam conditions.So, overall, an ideal training aid, and fun too. Even my wife likes it.Brass bands, here I come again!

My 10 year old can use this on his own to practice for grade 4. Pieces are fun and the included CD helps a lot with timing accuracy and tuning. However not all songs in the book are on the Abrsm grading list. For grade 4, players can choose from six pieces such that they have three pieces from each group ABC.Overall a sound investment for learners.

Recommended by the Cornet Teacher and is one of the comprehensive book which cover grade 4 and grade 5 pieces. Although is expensive but can last for a long time too.
