Wooden competition-size (3¾")chess sets are generally over $100 and lower priced sets are usually crude and weirdly shaped. This set is half the price of what you usually pay for this, and it does not disappoint. It's well finished, regular shaped (for instance the Queen's coronet like it should be, not just a rounded top like in cheaper sets) and even the knights are finely crafted (one may consider the German-style knights "too basic" but they are *the* standard for tournament play).However, not giving 5 stars because it's not perfect; some of the white pieces are made of slightly darker wood than the others, and the felt bases are rather crude.Still, if you're looking for a great looking wooden set on a budget, this is highly recommended.

Inconsistent finish, one of the dark pawns is much lighter than the others and some could have been sanded more. The knight also looks a little off of what I hoped for. The weighting seems excellent. I'm mostly happy.

I love these chess pieces! They have a great feel and are nicely weighted. Craftsmanship is excellent and the price is right! A bonus is that they come in an attractive storage box. They are heirloom quality. The 3.25 king size makes them feel like you are playing bigger pieces. Great for 15, 16, and 17 inch boards and they still work on a 19 inch board.

Well worth the money, pieces are large enough for easy handling, quality look to board and pieces. Great set very happy with this purchase.

Nice pieces but white Rook was broken into 3 pcs. Was able to glue back together.
