I really enjoy this game. The theme of Vikings is really well worked into how the game plays, and the artwork on the character cards is terrific. Vicious-looking Vikings, but with a touch of light-heartedness to the cartoons. Fans of Viking history and lore will recognise aspects of the game such as the longhouse and the Valkyries.The game play takes a bit of learning, and is about medium-complexity depending on how much experience your group has with board games, and the game flows well once you learn. There is a worker-placement aspect to the game as you need to build up supplies and crew in order to go on future raids. There's also an aspect of managing your cards in that you have crew members with different costs and abilities that make them better or worse for different actions you may want to take. The main way to score points is to carry out raids, which we also find to be the funnest part of the game. You need to make decisions such as whether to raid less valuable targets more quickly, or build up for a larger raid. And there are different pathways to points, so if for example, somebody else builds up more ability to do more difficult raids than you can, you can still focus on getting points by making offerings to the chieftain or by having Valkyries carry away some of your crew during raids. That way the score can stay close and it is very unlikely one person will run away with the game. All of the different options for playing and scoring all make sense within this Viking world and helps keep the theme alive while you play.Family-friendly, too, if you have children who love Vikings as much as mine does. The age on the box is 12, but I play with my child who is much younger. It will take some help and guidance for children to learn the mechanics of the game, and it is challenging but accessible to children with support from an adult (and there are good YouTube videos as well). If you have a child who loves the theme of Vikings, they will probably have the enthusiasm to stick through the learning curve, and then you will have an excellent time.

This game is simply amazing. I'm slowly eating my way to larger and longer board games, and this is a great starter. So many decisions to be made, and it stays engrossing right up until the final scores are tallied up.I've played this game with generally new comers to the board game revolution, and each group have lapped it up!I strongly recommend getting both expansions to the base game too (Hall of Heros and Fields of Fame), not to say the base game is lacking or anything, but they add so much to the game, I can never play a game without them... (much like I can never watch Serenity without watching the whole season of Firefly first!)Buy it now!

Nice variation on worker placement game. Good quality of components, with metal coins topping it off. Fair game balance, and several strategies to work with. The random placement and combination of goods you can raid means fine replay value

The metal coins are a nice feature and the theme of controlling a group of Vikings to complete raids is so appealing that makes everybody feel part of the universe.Totally recommend if you like worker placement games, but I suggest to get the Hall of Heroes expansion to have more paths to victory.
