As good as the first book!
Review:I was pleasantly surprised by the first book and the rollercoaster ride of supernatural fun, billions of diverse characters involved, whacky and smart mouth humor continued in this second installment. The book takes off exactly where the first left off and with reading them quite close to one another it feels like one big story. This fact also left me feeling particularly sorry for Nick who didn’t have time to cool down before he is thrown into another madness and mayhem case with new supernatural mysteries to solve and powers he has to master, and all that in a ridiculously short timeframe. This is an energetic book, and it shows in everything it does: jumps from one place/event/scene to another (smoothly and logically), no pointless descriptions or whining, dialogue is snappy, sharp and sarcastic to the last letter, there are multitudes of subplots/hidden agendas/ to keep the reader busy and guessing, the pace is relentless and there are no “pauses” so there is no opportunity to put the book down, the endless array of questions I want answers to and because of which I keep on diligently reading and reading, even at the end I just feel that this was just one chapter finishing not an actual book – there is just so much steam left, etc. Some aspects that were lacking:I’m sorry, but please don’t let Nekoda be Nick’s ultimate HEA, yes, she’s kickass and nice and pretty and brave, etc, but she’s so incredibly boring and she manages to make Nick dull as well when they are together. It’s just cringingly awkward and feels like trying to fit a square in a triangle. Unless something profound changes in their couple chemistry, I don’t want to read about them being yawn-worthy together. It took a while for me to understand what the main plotline in this story was, there was at times so much going on and so many characters thrown at me that I didn’t know where I should place my attention the most. Also, when the main line made itself prominent, it was already well into the story so I wasn’t as invested in it as I hoped to be.Despite my whining, I repeat that this book, as well the series, is just pure mindless excitement, fun and craziness. Honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I have and sincerely hope the goodness lasts (there are too many books still in this series to come out!).Characters:Nick – he’s colorful, wacky, reckless and I think he rocks. I’m not really that wild about his future self and the version of him in the later Dark-Hunter books, but the Nick in this universe I can’t get enough of. And if it isn’t too much to ask, I hope gets at least a small break soon, because he needs to relax with the pace everything is moving.I have to rant a little about Nick’s mother: wow, I can’t understand how she is seen as this flawless angel, when she does everything in her power to make Nick feel even more self-conscious and pathetic, for example, are there really no decent looking clothes except for Hawaiian shirts in Goodwill, Nick receives absolutely no trust from her, she accepts almost nothing that others give even if it would be a huge help for them both, etc. Oh, she just tires my patience and I don’t know how Nick can tolerate everything she does.Overall:A more than worthy sequel to a great first book which has kept everything that was awesome and upped its game in this one.

And are the good guys still good guys or are they bad guys ...
My mind is still reeling after reading this book. It has sooo many layers and multiple story lines. Not to mention all the characters!! And if you are a Dark Hunter fan, you really have to set aside what you think you know from what happens. And are the good guys still good guys or are they bad guys and who can you trust??I certainly don't envy Nick and what he has to go through and he never catches a break....much less any time to just process things. I think Infinity was interesting because we were just getting to know the younger Nick and the whole zombie story line was pretty good and action packed. This story is much more about Nick getting introduced to what he is and the beginnings of his powers. There is a bit of Kyrian and Ash and even Savitar. {and a hilarious part where Nick gets Ash to show him his fangs!} But Simi is playing a much larger role in this book. She is great as always so lets hope that she continues to play a big part. We also get to meet the crew at the Sanctuary which was really fun. Caleb and Kody are the two new characters that are still playing a major role in Nick's life. We get to meet Grim....again, can we trust him or not....and Ambrose, of course, is in the picture. There was a nice bit in the epilogue that makes me want the next book NOW!!The "bad" guy wasn't a huge part in this book....more of a determining factor for Nick's choice of direction. {and yes, im being ambiguous!}The first half is kind of slow but once it picks up, boy, does it pick up. I think the only problem I had with the book was the kissing....yes, the kissing!! Here's a line from the book:"Nick shuddered at the sensation of Kody‘s mouth on his. And as he tasted those full, soft lips, an inexplicable calm came over his entire being. He felt like he was floating. Cupping her face in his hands, he let the warmth of her mouth soothe him until he could think straight again."soooo pretty yummy....yes? YES...it made me feel like I was reading a Dark Hunter book...not a YA book. Im sure young teens will like it but all I could think is he's only 14!!!!

This is going to make a huge difference to the storyline
This is the second in the (theoretical) Young Adult series linked to Ms Kenyon's Dark Hunter/Dream Hunter universe. A synopsis of where this story sits is: Nick Gautier (pronounced Go-shay) is a teenager when first met in the Dark Hunter series. Over the course of those books, he grows to adulthood, before losing his mother in tragic circumstances. This, coupled with other events, results in Nick killing himself, and the start of his hatred of Acheron Parthenopeaus. However, there is more to Nick's character than meets the eye and he has a far greater role to play that was apparent in the early books. In this book, we are back to Nick as a teenager, who has only just realised that there is a whole world of creatures out there that he knew nothing about. The first book, Infinity, introduces us to him in more detail. In this book, he starts to learn more about his abilities and his importance both the status quo and the future. He is helped, as in the first book, by the mysterious Ambrose, and by his other friends, Caleb and Nekoda. He also finds out more about Simi. This is a critical part of the story, as not knowing about Simi caused a whole load of problems for him.So, this is the most intruiging part of this series. Instead of Nick making the 'mistakes' that led to his death, Ambrose, who is an adult Nick from centuries in the future, has chosen to try to change the decisions his teenage self makes, and meeting Simi is a major part of this.I don't want to say much about the book itself, because it will spoil the story, but suffice it to say that what happens has left a whole new way for the story of Nick to develop. I can't wait for the next installment.

More of teenage Nick!
The second of the Chronicles of Nick this book pretty much picks up where Infinity left off and continues the story of Nick's teenage years - with a little intervention from the mysterious Ambrose who is desperate to undo the mistakes which have huge consequences for his future! No zombies this time around just very confusing friends/enemies....and an evil football coach! This book was really enjoyable with Nick's constant sarcasm. It is a really easy read as it is technically for young adults and obviously lacks the intense romance and darker tones of the original series. I finished it in a couple of hours but it was a fun read with all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's usual style.I think fans of the original series can probably better appreciate whats going on in the background of these books and im not sure how easy to follow they would be for someone who has not read the darkhunter series. Those who have know where Nick was headed and all that went wrong in his life with his mum and that fatal encounter with the Simi - this series provides the opportunity to change all that and i'm very curious at how it all turns out!

Must read for all Dark Hunter fans. What you think you know you don't!
Having read the dark hunter books I wasn't keen to try this as I figured I knew Nicks story, well leave it to Ms Kenyon to throw in a twist and suddenly what you thought you know you don't. This is going to be a very interesting path waiting to see just how and where she is able to take this story.

Brilliant
Have resisted reading these for so long as they have a teenage hero but i was wrong, they are just as good as the original dark hunter series with the intriguing idea behind it that at any moment nick may do.something which changes all the books we have read so far as the Malachai.tries to change the past and prevent armageddon

Nick gautier
I've read many of the dark hunter series by this very talented writer and loved them all. Nick was a big character that always seemed secretive. What a joy now to get to know him and his role. LOVING ITI adore sherrilyn Kenyon and find this series hard to put down once I've started. Keep up the good work. Please please please have these made into a tv series or films. AMAZING. Would give true blood a run for its money.X
