Stay away, horrible product, appalling support from HP.
Update:I am continuing to get the fan error 90B and the fan is extremely loud. The system complains that continuing to use might cause serious errors and damages and it shuts down automatically if I don't press any key.HP support is washing off their responsibility saying that Linux is not supported. It's their hardware still and my laptop is in warranty. I registered for a callback and didn't receive any, ever. WhatsApp support gives me automated templated responses mostly.PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS...Original:This is a decent laptop for the price. Instead of generalising the review I'd like to go straight away into the pros and cons. My laptop came with just FREEDOS and so I installed Ubuntu 22.04LTS Budgie variant. That too has it's own set of issues. We'll get into the pros and cons.Pros:* Great battery life and performance doesn't drop when on battery too. Credit goes to the low voltage AMD processor that's super power effecient.* Was able to game on it. Have played COD4 Modern Warfare original version (not remastered), Modern Warfare 2 original and Doom 3 BFG edition without issues. Best thing is the fan still doesn't get noisy and neither do I feel any heat.* Really lightweight even compared to other 14 inch models out there.* 8GB RAM is great and more than enough for most people. Unless you're planning to use the laptop for hardcore software development which involves building large code bases, this should be more than enough.* 512GB SSD is another great boon. It's really fast and I've never had any issues like slowness. Boot up and shutdown times are very snappy too.* Sound quality is excellent, compared to most other laptops from Lenovo, Acer, Asus that I've used, even far more expensive ones. It also gets much louder than those other laptops.Cons:* Not a very comfortable keyboard to type on. It's not bad but I'd prefer a little more key travel. It's too shallow for me.* Trackpad gets in the way of typing. Text gets autoselected and deleted. It's a bit of a nuisance. But this maybe personal. Also it maybe possible if you have Windows to disable the trackpad when typing.* Build quality is good but the plastic feels really cheap.* Screen is not even full HD. Again that's bad for this price.* Have been seeing this 90B fan issue where it complains that the cooling fan isn't working properly. I see it when I boot up the machine and it warns that continuing could cause irreparable damage. I hear the fan going crazy, noisy. Contacted HP support and they gave me a Windows exe file to update the BIOS which they said would fix the issue. As I was on Linux I had to use another windows machine to install that and create a bootable USB stick to try and update the BIOS in this laptop. But it kept failing saying it was unable to load the image. HP site says that Linux drivers are automatically supposed to be the latest. This issue has been there since last night and has been intermittent. Initially it was continuously there and I had to shutdown the machine to avoid any damage. Today when I switched it on I again saw the message but the fan was quiet. A few hours later I again heard the fans go crazy without much load on the system. And I see that this error is quite common with HP laptops. So you're better of using Windows on this machine.* Earphone jack is on the right side and it interferes with the mouse if you're right handed and using an external mouse.* Heat exhaust is on the rear and if you open the screen too far then it could affect the exhaust mechanism. I had my headphone run via the back side to come to the left as I am used to it being on the left side. The wire may have blocked the heat exhaust for some time and that may have resulted in the fan error 90B. It's just a guess. But I still wanted to caution everyone about it.In general, this laptop would've been a better deal had it been around 20-22k price range. If you can get it with pre-installed Windows then go for it. Linux support doesn't seem to be that great. I'll have to use it long term to see how good it is.So, do I recommend it? That depends. If you are looking for a laptop for long term use then I'd not recommend this at all. Because the processor is already 4 generations behind. For about 13-14k more you'll get the latest generation (still not Zen 4 but Zen 2 microarchitecture) procssor with the same specs but better screen resolution. Such a laptop would be future proof too. You can use it for 4+ years easily. But if you're looking at saving that 13-14k extra and you are not too keen on great longevity, then you can go for it. Still see if the price is apt for you to pull the trigger. In my personal opinion if you get at this price with Windows then it's great. Otherwise it's definitely overpriced.
