Pressure Treated Wooden Beehive Compost Bin, 250 Litre (2'8 x 2'4)

Not as advertised. Arrived in a very poor condition with pieces missing. Very disappointing. One star because it isn't possible to give zero stars.

The timber is cut and machined accurately so assembly is straightforward.

These are lovely however you will need to saw the door to make it fit. We've had two of these now and for both of them the door was too big to fit the hole so had to have a centimetre or two trimmed off. As long as you're prepared for this then it's great. Oh yes, it does not hold 400 litres, the packaging clearly says it's 250 litres. I have told Amazon but they haven't changed the listing.

Difficult to get the uprights in to the tolerance required. Insructions said they had to be something like 350mm embedded. They don't come with metal shoes or points so can't be driven. Really some sort of mechanical auger is needed. In my case, it took almost 1hr per hole using a wood chisel to drive through roots. I took great care, but still didn't get them all in at the tolerance needed, so will have to purchase some timber to re-make the slats as I'm missing about 5mm in one section as I couldn't get ensure the verticality. Looks nice, but hard word installing.

Buying a kit (we bought the compost bin plus 2 extensions) had seemed like a good idea. When I read the reviews, there was one negative one, but the rest all seemed OK. I wished I'd paid more attention to the warning from that one reviewer.The instructions were poor - but that didn't worry us too much, as we have quite a bit of DIY experience. The key problem was that for the kit to work at all you need to get everything perfectly square - and that's nearly impossible unless you happen to be assembling on perfectly flat surface with ground that is really easy to sink the posts into. We ended up purchasing extra spikes for the posts to sit in, but still had trouble getting everything square.Then the slats that look like you can just slide them down into place were really tricky. Some were ok, but for most the slot was too narrow and we needed to use a mallet to bang them into place (meaning that it's unlikely we'll be able to get them out again when we want to empty the compost). The whole thing took hours to assemble and is disappointing, particularly given the price. If I were doing this again, I'd hire a handyman/person to make something from scratch.

Straightforward delivery and assembly. Love the product if a little pricey.
