A solid product
I bought this to replace the plastic bodied version, where a few of the teeth that hold the hose in place had broken. I'd never seen the "metal" version before, but it wasn't much dearer than the plastic one, and since it lives permanently outdoors I thought would probably be more durable. I generally like Hozelock products, so have only dropped this to four stars because at this stage I have no way of knowing how long/well it will actually last.

Is it worth the extra?
After buying a female to female pro connector I thought I’m only buying pro stuff from now on. Then this arrived. The only additional metal part is the external collar the rest is the same as the cheaper version, all plastic. Having said that you don’t realise how mush your old one had worn until you replace it. So looks nice, new o rings tighten things up and all for an extra pound or so. You decide.

So much better than the standard connectors worth every penny

Excellent
This is a must, if you are older or suffer with you hands, or going a little weaker, as it will release a lot easier, than the plastic version, also a lot tougher, and can be left out over winter, without splitting

Fails to latch after a while
This connector no longer reliably latches on to tools (spray guns, sprinklers etc.). Initially, I thought it was wear on the plastic male connector of our spray head but after checking a number of other hose tools we use, it’s clear it’s this Pro connector that is at fault. As others have noted, you end up having to hold the connector onto the tool to ensure good flow or even just to physically keep it connected!

Plastic connector with metal collar would be a more accurate description
Fitted my hose easily with a little warm water to soften the hose first.Allows easy connection of my various fittings though not tested with pressure washer yet. Some say this connector causes issues.Sadly if you are looking for a robust connector I doubt this will satisfy your needs. From what I can see all the important parts are still the same plastic as the cheaper version. The only metal part is the metal collar you pull back to release the plastic 'catches'.All of my previous cheaper connectors have failed on parts that this pro metal one retains as plastic.I'll be looking to other makes when this one fails.
