Multifunctional Serial to TCP/IP Converter
This is a well-built device to convert a serial connection - either RS232 or RS485 to TCP/IP or vice versa. It will also convert between MODBUS RTU and TCP. Of course, you can read that much in the product description... Some thoughts after trying it out:The Good:- Can make one or two serial connections IP based. It uses different port addressing for each.- The built in web interface can subscribe to MQTT topic through an external broker. This is sort of nice, since it allows non-IP capable devices to send/receive MQTT messages.- The MODBUS RTU/TCP conversion works seamlessly.- Comes with two DB9 cables- a M-F and F-F.- Can be powered with the included adapter with a barrel plug or wired directly to removable screw terminals.- Default IP address and login info printed on label affixed to bottom of device. The Not so Good:- No IEC, UL, nor ETL certifications or even indications of standards compliance. They mention IEC6100 in the product listing, but the datasheet and manual downloaded from their website is silent on this.- Lots of options in the web interface to configure different functionality. Documentation can be found online- not the most detailed, so it's up to the user to fill in the blanks.- Can be wall mounted, but not DIN rail. Since this targets industrial uses, should be DIN mountable, but not even tooled for adding a DIN rail bracket later. You can mount DIN clips to the metal mounting ears that extend on either side, but then it will take up 6" of valuable rail space- was not well thought out.- Likely to get flagged by over protective IT departments that have policy restrictions for networking equipment from China- especially since it has a microcontroller onboard. I have trust issues and set it up on an isolated VLAN.- While it can handle 2 serial connections, there's some considerable cheaper single-port options (Waveshare) that do pretty much the same thing- and are DIN mountable out of the box.Overall, not a bad device. While it's not big, it's probably bigger than it needs to be and is kind of awkward for mounting in industrial applications (the permanently attached metal mounting ears don't help).
