Good read with great plot twist at end
I loved the ending plot twist but felt it was left unresolved, not exactly a cliff hanger. Some characters could have used more development and closure. But, all and all, a good read.

it kept me engaged the entire time.
It held my attention from the beginning. The ending wasnt what I expected, which is a good thing. A bit unrealistic, but it entertained me enough to hold my attention.

Totally enjoyed this thriller
I wasn’t sure about it in the beginning but after I kept reading it, I was so into it. I stayed up until early hours of the morning reading, wanting to push forward. Then the twists and turns hit. Couldn’t stop now. Wish there was a sequel to this book just to see how Anne and Derrick really turn out.

intense read
I liked the fast pace. The principal player’s characterizations. I did get just a hint of Lee Chen talking but the mother of Anne Wiley? Never! And I never liked Derreck for one minute. And Paula! Wow! The twist and turn. I finished it I. A day and a half. Five Stars right here!

Bravo! Author has me hooked
Really, really enjoyed this story! Written very well, some sex, some scandal, some detective work, back stories, alternative points of view... all dots connected neatly and believably.I'm searching for another book from this author immediately!

SPELL BINDING
The reviews are right on - this book is addictive - hard to put down but you have to because you don't want the story to end too soon. I found the author's knowledge of surgical procedures most impressive. She certainly did her homework. I ordered two more Leslie Wolfe books to get me through some of those sleepless nights.

For Fans of Freida McFadden
This is the first author I've read who writes as good as Freida McFadden, in this genre. Similar style, including the type of ending. That is a compliment because I've read ALL of McFadden's books and wish there were more! This is the first book I've ready by Leslie Wolfe and I plan to check out her others, even though the genre of the others isn't my normal genre.

Wonderful story plot and full bodies characters
I loved the storyline, it was so new and fresh! The characters settled into their roles so nicely. The ending was predictable but nothing wrong with that. I would highly recommend the author and her books!

Great End twist
Great book with a couple of twists and turns. Some medical jargon but not too much and not too graphic. The twist at the end you don’t see coming and this makes this novel stand out amongst many others of the same genre. Will look out for more from this author.

Gripping medical/crime thriller
‘Trusted surgeon. Loving wife. Murderer?’ - cover tag line, ‘The Surgeon’ by Leslie Wolfe. This medical/crime thriller proved a highly engaging read. I combined reading with its unabridged audiobook edition, narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor. Like most crime and psychological thrillers, I read it ‘cold’ in order to avoid spoilers. So just a brief overview.Chicago-based Anne Whiley is a cardiothoracic surgeon who in her twelve year career has not lost a patient. Until today. As she calls time of death we are made aware that although she hadn’t recognised her patient during the pre-operative consults, when she looks behind the drape she realises that he is someone that she hates. Had this led to his death? As Anne wrestles with her conscience and looks into possible medical reasons for the death, she is shocked to learn that Paula Fuselier of the State’s Attorney Office is investigating the death. Her world is threatening to come crashing down, ruining her career and marriage. While I enjoyed this novel I did find it rather strained credibility that given the serious nature of cardiothoracic surgery that this was the first time that Anne had experienced losing a patient. In addition, her constant anxiety that she was about to be arrested for murder seemed like a catastrophic expectation given the circumstances. I could imagine a good defence attorney demolishing the case especially given Paula’s toxic behaviour.Still, I set aside these quibbles as it really was a gripping thriller with plenty of twists and turns. It was the kind of book that I found almost impossible to put down. With respect to the audiobook, Gwendolyn Druyor has served as narrator on almost 300 titles, including a number by Leslie Wolfe. I felt that she did a good job with this audiobook and I enjoyed the contrast between those chapters told from the viewpoints of Anne and Paula. A change of tone and inflection differentiated between Anne’s sense of service and dedication versus Paula’s nastiness and ambition.Overall, while this was the first novel I have read by Leslie Wolfe, I certainly am interested in reading more of her works.

Edge of your seat, gripping thriller
Phew. This was a wild ride. It gave me all of the anxiety.I found it a little slow to start. Anne's internal monologue was a bit repetitive but it definitely picked up eventually. The constant fear that she was going to be arrested, especially with Paula sniffing around and showing up unannounced, really set the pace. I was so anxious reading that my heart was actually racing at points.I also never thought I could feel empathy for Paula right until the end - a twist I really didn't see coming. The ending was wrapped up very neatly with all questions answered so I was very satisfied with that. I was not a fan of what happened with her husband and her reaction on the very last page - it went against everything Anne's character was.Overall a very enjoyable read. If you enjoy fast paced (eventually), edge of your seat thrillers with a side of family drama & secrets then I'd recommend you give it a try

This was the first novel of this particular author I have read and it won’t be the last. I absolutely could not put this book down. So many twists and turns. I was hooked from the first page.
