Marmite - but better
There a a lot of yeast extracts, with Marmite being the most famous in the UK. Both the low salt and ordinary NATEX products are better than Marmite, a more rounded flavour. It is a pity that a few years ago the manufacturer chose to move to Marmite shaped jars, because a previous benefit was that their jars were easier to use than the standard shaped Marmite jar, which sadly they now use. Go back to a standard jar.

I love Natex!
I have been buying this low salt natex now for over a year, and I love it, I can't live without it! I have this for breakfast every day and never get tired of it. Its a great, healthy alternative to other high salt yeast extracts. If you buy the pack of four jars as I do, it will save you quite alot of money over time. They arrive well packaged, and so far there have been no breakages. They usually have a long use by date on the jars-although they usually get eaten well before any use by date in our household. If you have never tried Natex low salt before I highly recommend it. It has a slightly thicker consistency than the glutinous(and high salt) Marmite, but is still very easy to spread. It obviously has no MSG, and is low in salt-much less salt than other supermarket own brand low salt yeast extracts-you would be surprised as I have been at the high salt content if you read the labels. I have tried other low salt yeast extracts like Meridian, but this is much much nicer.

Absolutely love this
You either love it or hate it but I absolutely love this stuff. I have replaced Marmite due to the high salt content. I have been eating this for a few months and can highly recommend it. The flavour is a little stronger (but great) and much less salty. No disrespect to Marmite but I had some the other day because I had some left over and I couldn't believe how salty it was. If you are on a reduced salt diet or want a nice flavour yeast extract product then this is your answer.

not as good as marmite
I decided to try this as I couldn't get Marmite delivered to Italy where I live without spending a fortune on postage fees. This stuff is quite good, but not anywhere nearly as good as the original Marmite. You get used to it and it's better than nothing if you're a yeast extract fan, but next time I'll try the salted version. This one is low salt but it has that metallic taste that subsititute salt has. Excellent delivery.

Now with added salt!
I used to be a big fan of Natex. For someone who has to be on a very low sodium diet, it was great to have something savoury and low-salt to go on my home-made no-salt bread. Only problem I had was finding somewhere that stocked the stuff. So this time when my pot ran out, I ordered online.Packaging (green) is different to the yellow-and-red packaging I was used to. And it turns out, the ingredients are different too. It seems that some bright spark at Jardox Health (manufacturers of Natex) decided that what their 'reduced salt savoury spread' really needed was - yes - added salt. How is it even possible to have added salt in a 'reduced salt' product? For the old yellow tubs of Natex, there is no salt listed in the ingredients and the sodium content is quoted on the label as 0.4g/100g. Now for the green tubs of Natex, second item on the ingredients list is 'salt', and the sodium content is listed as 1.3g per 100g (equivalent to 3.2g salt per 100g). That's three times as salty as previously, and twice as salty as Walkers ready salted crisps for example.Fair play to Amazon - they were very helpful about it and have now added an image of the nutrition label. Epic fail for Jardox Health though. If someone knows if it is still possible to get 0.4g/100g old-style Natex, I'd love to know.

Better than Marmite.
I have used Natex reduced salt extract for some years now because I find Marmite too salty. I use it on toast or bread and sometimes add a little to my gravy.

Love, love, love
I have to admit to being a Marmite lover and there is no great shame in that, but then I was introduced to Natex with lower salt content and equal yumminess. Not quite as spreadable as Marmite but I can live with that minor issue. Hard to find product in the shops so I buy on line and 4 at a time. It will take a while to work through current consignment but I will be back for more in due course.
