Plasticine modelling can be fun - but plasticine creations have an inherent immediacy and weren't meant to be kept so it's nice to introduce children to a more permanent form of modelling clay. This Junior Art Lab Fashion Dolls' set features Das, perhaps the best known self-hardening clay that can be worked similar to plasticine but produces lasting results and hardens within 24-48 hours depending on its thickness.Made in Italy, this is a 16 piece set featuring 3 x 100g blocks of Junior Das clay in white, pink and yellow, a liquid adhesive along with various cutters and tools to shape the clay. There's nothing in the listing to suggest suitable age groups but I reckon age 6 could be about right as a starting point. By the time many children have reached their teens, the little figures and simplistic designs will likely have lost their appeal.There's plenty here to keep children occupied - kneading and rolling out the clay, punching out the figures, then cutting out shapes for the facial features, the hair, the shoes and the clothing. The modelling material is easily replenished too once they run out. A good introduction to self-hardening clay and its potential, this could make an appealing gift for children who like making and creating and who have started to develop an interest in fashion.

The good thing is there are no strong nasty smells with this clay. There is a light smell however and I would say you better air the room afterwards just to be on the safe side. My other warning is - the clay is not as elastic as playdough so squishing and squashing it is not quite an option and if you start twisting it in your hand make sure to roll it properly afterwards as it breaks up quite easily if strained and looks not all that smooth. So the less handling, the smoother it looks. But having it slightly warm (maybe in a warm room, held in a warm grown-up hand for a while before molding) is my suggestion.The instruments included are not overly sharp, which is better for safety but leaves the edges not that smooth so you might want to help your child if they seek perfection.It is a fun kit but it won't be picture-perfect so don't get your child's hope too high.

It arrives in a large and decorated cardboard box that is suitable for gifting as is. I received the 'fashion' set but two other versions are available in the same listing at the time of this review. Priced £16.64 at the time of this Amazon Vine review, this does not seem badly priced and would make a nice small gift. Suitable for 5 years and over.

these art dolls are great for adults and children, their is no right or wrong way to make one of these dolls. they are easy to make due to the fact you make it how ever you would like your doll to look like.

This is a lovely modelling clay set.There is a good selection of items.The clay is air-hardening. It is a really simple art set to keep my children entertained.A good gift idea!

The clay is air drying and there are lots of options for making and decorating the dolls. It is well put together and it is a great rainy day activity.

Wasn't a fan, sadly both me and my 5 year found it extremely hard to mold or even roll the clay and once molded sadly it cracked. Nice set but would probably suit older children.
