Survival tool, for worse case scenario.
Well, first off the sheath and the wrap is not real leather. This is referred to as a "settler's wrench" it is a bushcraft tool. So the scotch eye, which is part of the hanger when you want to use the auger tool is at least the same size as the auger. So you can use the scotch eye (the hole in the handle of the auger) to size down sticks to the size of the auger. Allowing you to make possible ladder rungs, and chair legs/table legs that fit the holes you created with the auger. Thus, being able to make pieces of wood material to assemble together. This is of course very time-consuming, but we are talking about bushcraft. So you got nothing but time. You could also so it to auger out holes to make what is referred to as a rocket stove (google rocket stove) from a log or you can use the scotch eye to create kindling to start a fire. Not a bad tool to have in a survival bag or take out with you. It is just over 7 oz in weight so it is not light, but not honestly very heavy either. Does it work and is it functional yes it is. For the price point, the quality of this brush craft tool is about right, but the really lacking part of it is that they used some sort of synthetic vinyl for the sheath and the auger wrap. Hence why the 4 stars across the board from me.

It Works!
When I first saw this product I had a hard time imagining what it was for. After watching a couple of YouTube videos I understood just how much fun it would be to try one out.The attached pictures are a proof of concept. The head of the hammer is too small but it was the thickest piece of wood I had on hand. The handle is not perpendicular to the head but it isn't too terrible for a first effort. If I were actually in the woods I'd try to do better. At roughly five inches in length, excluding the eye, this auger is shorter than some others but I'm not planning to make holes more than five inches deep. The good news is that the auger plus case weighs a little less than six ounces, which is just fine for backpacking. My only complaint is that the case and sheath are plastic, not leather as claimed in the product description.

it is a hand auger requiring physical work
This hand auger is a fairly good product, though I will say it can be very labor intensive to bore through dry wood or any harder woods, which would be expected of any hand auger. This tool does cut fairly cleanly, and the hole for the handle can technically be used to cut ends for fitting joints, but I never tried using the handle that way and instead used the handle as a sizing guide. It is important to know that you need to make your own wood handle to slide into the metal handle eyelet for leverage, and also to know hand augers often work terrible trying to cut into the flat parts of stumps, which is do to how the grain splits on the flat end leaving nothing for the screw to grab into securely vs using it on the side of logs where it tends to work pretty darn good.

Considering the price ...
I have to keep the price of this in mind compared to the others I've been eyeing over the years.Firstly, the sheath and the ... I don't even know what the other thing is even meant to be ... They're definitely not leather. They're meant to be somewhat like leather in appearance, but expect them to wear out. The carabiner is a joint. But again, look at the price.I don't know what steel the tool is made from, which is fine, again, considering the price. The edge of the peg cutter isn't at all sharp, and I can't say it's very effective for that, but it will hold a handle to make using the auger easier. The bit itself has tacky-sharp points on the end spikes, and the edges feel nice enough, so definitely it gets positive points for that.I've wanted one of these for a long while, for the novelty purpose, and playing around with. I think this price point much better excuses the purchase for it. It should be fun.

Excellent Item, Garbage Sheathes
I've wanted to get one of these for a while, so for the price I thought I would try this one out. The tool itself arrived very sharp on the bit end, not so much on the eye end, but that might be a safety issue so I'll let it pass for now. The bit, bit, deeply and easily and I was able to bore through a 1 inch pine plank with little difficulty. I have not tried using the eye to cut with yet. So far, no problems, but this item was made in China, so caveat emptor. The included sheathes are claimed to be full leather, they are not. They are some synthetic fabric which is thin and cheap, and I have no faith in them holding up even through storage. I will get something less shoddy as a sheath for the bit.

This one of those tools that you know... if you know...
At my age and varied hobbies, I have learned that if I have all the tools I think I will ever need -that I am not thinking of all of the possibilities. The bit is substantial and sharp, and the handle is stout enough for boring holes in what ever needs a hole bored into it. The pleather case is a bit under whelming, but I like it anyway. If you know what this tool is for, you should get one. You will be glad you did. If someone asks what it is for, just tell them that if they knew....

Sharp and Effective
The sharpness and polish seemed to indicate that this was a decent quality tool before use. Definitely better for dead wood (and slow, considering it's a manual tool). Definitely effective though - the small screw at the tip is enough to get it started, and a long stick allows enough torque to slowly bore through a log. Very satisfying. The only thing to point out is that the holster is faux-leather rather than real leather. Not a big deal considering the quality of the tool.

very sturdy, worth getting
This hand augur is pretty sturdy! I got it for camping and emergency use. You will NEED and screw driver or an 10" metal rod to help twist it threw the wood. You can save the dry wood chips to help start a camp fire if you need. It would be nice if it came with a rod that had an extra feature.
