Ergo Proxy Collection [DVD]

Ergo Proxy - Classic Anime series on Blu-ray... But packaging needs an upgrade
I'm happy that I could get this new Blu-ray release of my favourite Anime, but I'm really disappointed that they didn't really do much about the packaging, with it being the 10th Anniversary Edition and especially for what it's selling at.These days, buying Blu-ray or DVD's for the same price they sold for over a decade ago is actually laughable, knowing that there are so many ways to acquire a series or a movie, so many streaming services, like Netflix and Amazon Prime, and knowing how many competitors there are...I suppose that there wasn't enough of in the budget for the release, but I hope the support will with the sales of this title. There was NObooklet and only contained the 3 1080p Blu-ray discs in the traditional blue Blu-ray case. One would expect this release to at least have a booklet with more info and at least some celebratory words about the 10th Anniversary release.I would've liked the packaging to be similar to the original DVD release, where the inlay had an almost holographic shimmer to it on each cover. A slipcover box... Something... Sigh...I guess it is what it is... We all celebrate something important in our lives, and this was one of those highlights.I hope all you fans out there will find this review helpful. It's still Blu-ray and still worth getting if you're a fan.Thank you Amazon for the Amazing service :-)

B grade PAL DVD release (solid A- anime)
First, a brief review of the anime itself. It was criticized upon release for not meeting viewer expectations. And those expectations were that Ergo Proxy would be a hard sci-fi philosophical anime a-la Ghost in the Shell. However, it is NOT. that It is ITS OWN THING, and as long as you understand that, you might be pleasantly surprised. It is a mystery story with some philosophy and psychology sprinkled heavily on top, because that is what the director liked (directors tend to do that). About half of the psychology and philosophy bleeds into and affects the plot, some is there simply because. There is also quite a lot of weirdness and the rare much-needed humor. Keep all that in mind before going in.Okay, now for the SOMEWHAT disappointing part, which is the quality of this release. After watching it twice, AND also seeing some of the episodes of the US NTSC release, I came to the conclusion that the UK viewers were screwed. Because from what my eyes tell me, while the US viewers were treated with a crystal sharp 480 file, the UK got the same thing upscaled to 576 (with some loss of colour), and then interlaced FOR NO REASON. Now, I know the interlacing was invented to display things on old CRTs. But this is a 2007 release (collected in a box)! Everyone had a flat progressive scan TV at that point! Thankfully, the interlacing can be fixed if your player knows how to combine 2 fields into 1 frame, but... why bother?? Because you shouldn't!I employ you instead to look for the US box set (with the best 480p scientifically possible), or the recent Blu-Ray.

slow burn anime but worth the time
This is an intellectual anime, if you are looking for gun battles and explosions, you need to look elsewhere. If however, you are looking for anime that requires active thought to engage with the characters and the story, this is well worth a watch. The story arc is slow to develop but every episode brings the viewer something new to contemplate.

Great and a Recommended Watch
Not going to go in-depth with a big review.Seen this anime two or three times and I'll probably watch it again so wanted to own a copy. It is highly recommended but avoid other people's opinions on it, go in open minded and enjoy :)The copy works fine, the packaging was good, no damage and delivered when expected.

Dark Cyberpunk classic
It takes it's time, but it's one anime I can recommend if you are into dystopian sci fi, and it's a little known classic that still holds up today.

Great quality, but ENG subtitles do not match the dub
A neatly packaged collection with very crisp video and audio quality. The only downside is that the English subtitles do not match the official dub, which would have been helpful for people with hearing issues and/or non-native speakers who would like to watch the show with the English voices, without rewinding every time they miss something.

Remarkable Sci-Fi anime
Re-L is an intelligence inspector in a dystopic future arcology and she's engaged in a search for a Proxy whatever that may be. It soon becomes clear that her search may provide answers that she'd rather not know. Densely plotted and superbly animated, this is now one of my favourite anime series, good enough to stand with Ghost in the shell SAC 1 & 2.

Blu-Ray collection of a classic
I had Ergo Proxy for a long time on DVD. Having lost them, it was time to upgrade to Blu-ray. For everyone who watched it, its all still here (I just cant remember if the aspect ratio is like in the original). For those who didnt, this anime is a warm reccomendation for fans of the genre.
