Brilliant
Tried everywhere to get these. So happy I persevered. Worth the extra expense , when you are paying a lot for hardwood decking and fitting, going the extra mile from get the final slick finish and detail of the screws was worth it. Look beautiful, barely see them as the colour blends into the wood and hopefully will last without rusting …only time will tell.

Low-visibility discreet decking screws for high-end hardwood projects
Expensive for what they are but cheaper than Toolstation! The principal advantage of these unusual screws in my opinion is the low-impact look of them - the antiqued finish blends in with a hardwood deck, the stainless steel composition means that black iron-staining which is a problem with tannin-rich hardwoods shouldn't be a problem. The heads are 7mm diameter pan heads with a Torx drive. Very stable to screw in if you use the correct Torx bit (not supplied). I could not bend these so much better than some cheaper S/S screws. The small head is good for going down in grooves on grooved decking, or on the ridges. Countersunk s/s screws generally have heads too large to do this without looking unsightly. They need pilot holes in hardwood, this is a little tedious as although there is a combination drill/counterbore available for these, it's very expensive, using a stepped 4.1mm and 6.5mm drill. I used a 4mm twist drill to drill the main hole in the wood, then used a step drill with the first two steps being 4mm and 6mm to drill the hole for the head. This is a little tricky, need to limit the depth of the 6mm counterbore. Even though not the correct size (should be 6.5mm) this seems to work OK. NB: unlike most screws. the 6.5mm pan-head does not hold the decking down - the screw thread under the head does this.

You Get What You Pay For - They're Cheap At The Price !
OK : its a crazy price for a box of woodscrews, I know, but having spent a fortune on some really good quality thermal ash decking, we were advised not to scrimp on fixings. The timber merchant recommended SPAX stainless steel, because as well as resisting rust it also avoids those black marks that appear in the wood around screw holes. Amazon's price is about the best we could find, so we went for the antique bronze (as it blends nicely with the dark decking we bought). I pre-drilled the decking, but also drove these straight into un-drilled timber and they went in without any problem at all. The rounded head is chunky but buries itself easily into the work piece, and looks extremely smart. The SPAX drill bits are superb, and once locked into the screw head it almost feels like the drill bit and screw are a single piece of metal. I drove about 400 of these rascals in over the course of the project and didn't experience a single cam-out, damaged thread or bent shaft. If its a job you care about, and don't want to cut corners, then these are all you're ever going to need.
