Quirky
Hubby, 16 year old son and I enjoyed it. Some things are a bit outdated but you have to remember it was made in the 80s.

Not quite what it's cracked up to be, but still very good
Lots of people warmed to Heathers when it first came out in 1988 simply because it was original. It was the first super-witty, shocking and hilarious high school black-comedy. Since, we've had numerous other films of the same genre that are, admittedly, better. What I'm trying to say, in the nicest way possible -even though it sounds harsh- is that Heathers is simply out-dated. I know that the original films of every genre are usually the best, but not in this case. Over the years, screen-writers have learned from other films- either from their mistakes or from their successes. Therefore, even though Heathers was really witty and shocking on its 1988 release, we have to accept that -like everything- now the genre has adapted, it has become even more witty, even more shocking and even more hilarious than ever!Still, this doesn't stop you enjoying Heathers as much as people did 20 years ago. Winona Rider and Christian Slater play the two leads as they begin to kill off all the 'popular' kids in school, due to their arrogant, nasty and domineering behavior towards everyone else- then covering their tracks by forging false suicide notes. The acting is good all round, and I was pleased to see that the direction was some-what 'adventurous' for a mid 80s film.Like another reviewer mentioned, it's fun seeing some of the wild 80s outfits and hairstyles, and also listening to some of the 'cool' dialogue and insults... but the fun stops there. As soon as Rider and Slater get mid way through their killing spree, everything takes a turn for the ridiculous. It seemed that the writers had the idea, but didn't know where to take it. Therefore, as the film races towards its finale, it gets a bit lost- I thought the second half, while no doubt being fun, was slightly under-whelming considering its fantastic build up.Yea, Heathers is a classic, and at this price it's hard to resist! If you are a fan, and fancy something similar, but a bit more modern, I recommend `Pretty Persuasion'.

Amazing!!!!
I had recently seen the musical so I had been dying to see the movie and wow I wasn’t disappointed! It’s now my favourite movie. I adore it, so much. Even my fiancé who doesn’t really like movies gave it 8/10, and his favourite movie got a 7/10 haha. But honestly, wow. It’s amazing. The acting is pretty great. Thinking that it was made in the 80’s is so weird. It covers a lot of issues that are still present in today’s society, so that worked out well. From seeing the musical to the movie, there are a few differences that I want to point out in case anyone is in the same position I was in. Heather Chandler is more complicated and I like that about it. Heather Duke is more redeemable, I felt. Veronica is friends with the Heathers before the movie starts (cutting Beautiful out completely). Martha is different and NOT Veronica’s childhood best friend. Heather MacNamara (I’m not sure how to spell it sorry) doesn’t admit to her feelings in front of everyone but on a radio station which is kinda cool. There’s not the whole Heather haunting Veronica either. There’s more of Veronica’s parents and I like that, it’s more amusing. Now for the part everyone cares about- JD. JD is wow. Very different. More manipulative, more controlling, more abusive. But still an amazing, well developed character. I feel like he’s more redeemable in the musical, though. But I still very much liked the portrayal and the unfolding of his character. I don’t think the musical version and the movie version can be talked about in quite the same way, as they’re so different.Honestly, I love love love love LOVE this movie. So much. I’m going to watch it again tonight, and I never watch a movie twice that close. I love it. I just love it so much.

Love this film, haven’t watched it since being a teenager. Although my 17 year old daughter thought it was boring. It was a blast from the past
