One of my favorite Yoga instructors
Beginners to advanced will enjoy this yoga. Some poses beginners will need to grow into, as I still am, not many just a couple. I believe I am an advance beginner. There are 3 sections. The 2nd section is very different, it is for longevity, it is a combination of holding your breath and releasing your breath with yoga qi-gong like movements, I feel totally rejuvenated hours after doing it. The other sections are Ashokananda's personal style yoga, which is a tad different but not to different. This is one of my very favorite yoga workout DVD's. I wish he had more. He has an AM PM Yoga DVD available from a French distributor, but it is only available in 'B format' (European) that does not play on America's DVD players. American format is categorized as A. Only hard part with the instruction for some people will be his accent, at first it might be hard to understand; but I did not have an issue with his accent, I thought it was really cool, and original.

Different from other videos i've done. It grows on you.
Directions are thorough and clear but somewhat hard to follow the first time. Gets better the more i do it and I get used to his style.Slow pace and breathing details are very in depth and helpful. Helps me to visualize my breath which is great. Can feel how it builds strength, balance, calm and focus.

dude was odd shaped and not really health looking and I kept thinking as I was trying to enjoy the poses
It was Ok, dude was odd shaped and not really health looking and I kept thinking as I was trying to enjoy the poses,"I don't want to look like this guy". "is this what I want to look like to be healthy?"

Kriya!
There are three separate segments of yoga each about 21-22 minutes and sadsana for five minutes. The workouts are intermediate and advanced. I had to learn the accent before having an effective session. It's rare to find Kriya yoga in a DVD format so I really appreciate this.

some of the moves where a little more complicated for the beginner to intermediate
It is a little difficult to understand him at times. Some for the poses where a little more complicated. The work out didn't seem to flow as well as other yoga work outs I have done.

power yoga by Yogi Ashokananda.
Apart from being a very step by step easy to follow yoga dvd, i was extremely surprised to see that there were many extra yogic practices involving well kept pranayama teqniques included in the bonus section. The practices really do emphasize not only on physical stamina and strength but also mental stability, focus and inner peace. This is not just ANOTHER yoga dvd , it really does incorporate how to build or even strenghthen the bridge between mind and body, by the various significant practices, i would wholeheartedly recommend this dvd to anyone who wishes to understand how to integrate yoga asanas with invaluable up to date and rare breathing teq's.A really well presented yoga dvd for all to watch and practice.

It's not for everyone
Evidently lots of people like this DVD and I'm not saying they're wrong to do so. Personally I found his accent impenetrable command of English limited, and instructions very vague, so I had to keep dropping out of the poses to see what he was doing. Because of that it was a very unrewarding session and I don't plan to repeat it. Can't help feeling that hosting a yoga dvd isn't the hardest thing in the world - do the poses, add a voiceover explaining what you're doing, add some new age music and you're done.I also found the Kriya Yoga puzzling - the pace of the sessions right down and I had no idea what it was trying to achieve. Maybe you need to read up on it first.

amazing...
...amazing, amazing, amazing!!! how much i sweat after doing Yogis really incredibly energizing breathing techniques, combined with those fast body movements. afterwards i almost felt electrified :) absolutely fabulous! hmmmm... maybe this really will fight off age :) Yogis teaching style is very special. really touching the soul. at least i felt it like that. also the music on the DVD is cool. not too much ohmmmm... somehow a mix btw old and modern contemporary indian???i have loads of Yoga-DVDs - but Yogi Ashakonandas is quite unique!!!! also there are new, surprising other postures, i did for the first time. specially those in the 2. kriya yoga part...i really feel, that my body is slightly changing from one day to another. makes me really enthusiastic to keep on going!!!

Dissapointed
I had high hopes for this dvd. But as soo as he started speaking it really put me off. The voice over is diffucult to understand and listen to. Its not calming or relaxing. There is no spritual yoga atmosphere. More like pilates not yoga. Very slow no where near power.
