Great quality pochade box for the leisure painter
So far, so good! Love it, perfect for outdoor painting. Only issue is that you can’t see the whole of the 10 x 12 board so the edges get missed, but there is probably a work around for this by modifying the box. I was going to fix a tripod mount to the bottom until I realised that the base is too thin for that. Doesn’t matter though I’m not sure I need it.The box is well made and the handy strap is good for carrying on the shoulder. All in all I recommend this for the leisure painter for someone who fancies getting outdoors and practicing their painting skills.I got it rather than spending £100s on a more well known pochade box or plein air set up that I won’t use, and it’s a good quality product for a fraction of the price. I’m so glad I bought this first.Happy painting!

Good value
The palette is fixed to box and not removable, so if used would make cleaning awkward, so I bought disposable palette papers, unfortunately the A4 was a little to long but I cut them to size with a Stanley knife and scissors, no problem. The slots for wet canvas boards are fine at approx 12 x 10", inside the box there is room for about 14 oil tubes. I have now got 18 x 12ml tubes of Cryla acrylics in mine, I used empty paint tubes which I filled with my favourite colours (much better than the set of small cheap acrylics I originally bought). If you are fussy about your paints this is the way to go here. As I am disabled and have mobility issues I have only had only one outing with my Pochade box, so far, but I found it good. My only issue is that it would be better if made to accommodate A4. Very goog value compared with expensive pochade.

the large to small for my gear
I spend ages looking for art supplies that suit my style of working. This large box was a little to small for the gear I tote about. Needs to go to bed as I often spend a lot of time there. The depth is where it counts. the pallet a bit odd as it is stuck in lid so impossible to clean. I do clean my palettes, I have no idea how professional artists sort out the mud colours you see on photos of their palettes. I carry my colour mixing guides in the place where canvases should go other wise it is totally wasted. Still this was what I could afford so it will have to do. I would be surprised if the seller used this type.Having moaned a bit It isn't as if I will not use it, and it has cleared up my bed a bit, now where to put the 100 books.

Bargain Pochade Box!!!
Delighted with this item. I have a smaller cigar box pochade box which I made, I was curious about this one and since it was on sale and my birthday round the corner... Didn't have high expectations because of the price, so was very pleasantly surprised. The grooves are wide enough for canvas boards, no trouble sliding them in and out. The only thing is that I might replace the wingnuts and screws that hold it open at an angle as they do slip a bit, but this is nothing major. Carrying strap is very handy.I might make another modification: there is a thumb hole in the palette - not sure why as I don't think you would really use it this way with a board on top. I like to use disposable tear-off palette paper, so I may put a thin sheet of wood over the palette so that I can tape paper on top without having a hole on it. The dividers come out so you can conf igure your box as you like at the bottom. This carries 2 wet panels, not 4 as stated in other places. 10x12 inches is big enough to get your teeth into for one session of painting. If you have plans to paint plein air you couldn't do better than start of with this great box at a very economical price.

Save your money.
The one star is for the delivery. The stud on the leather fastener broke the first time I opened it. The shoulder strap is too short. Cheap price, and cheaply made. I’ve put it into the garage until I find a use for it. I’ll now pay more and get something of quality.

Perfect little companion for plein air painting
Perfect little companion for plein air painting. Loved using this for an oil painting of a friend's allotment. 12x10 canvas boards fit perfectly.

My pochade box arrived without the strap but I found Amazon very helpful and decided to go for a partial refund rather than send the strap back. I bought another strap via Amazon that I'm very happy with. I've used the pochade box almost every day for a few weeks, mostly for oil sketches. I find it easy to balance on my knee when I'm painting outdoors sitting in a fold up canvas chair. It's light to carry too. I haven't had problems with sliding the palette back and forth like others have mentioned. I think it's a great bit of kit.

Light and portable
Have been using since spring 2022 and I am very happy with this product. It is light weight and suits my needs well. It does not come with a tripod attachment, so just sits in your lap. However, tripod mounts are available on amazon, and I think with some simple woodworking you could reinforce the bottom and add an attachment to the bottom of the box (but then you would lose the flat bottom for working on a table, eg.). I work in oils, so mix directly on the wood, but could easily fit a pad of disposable palette paper. I clean with a bit of solvent and then oil the wood. Fits full size brushes, palette knives, etc, and a generous selection of paint. Canvas panel in photos is 8x10", brushes 12-13", 37 ml tubes of paint.

Gets the job done and improves with modifications.
You might notice from the images that the pallet has a thumbhole so that this is partly meant to be a handheld easel. Unfortunately I need 2 hands to paint and usually wish I had a third. Therefore, I attached a tripod mounting bracket, but it's not really designed for that. The tray's bottom wood is too shallow for the depth of the mounting screws so I had to reinforce it with glued on wood inside before attaching the plate. The pallet surface itself is heavily grained in spots and causes my knife to chatter when scraping and bristles can get kinked when mixing. Every so often I give it a thorough cleaning, light sanding (not into the wood), and apply 1 or 2 coats tung oil. I'm hoping that this will level out the texture over time. The panel holding solution that doubles as a wet-carry box is not adjustable like most pochade boxes, although some ingenuity can get around that. You also have to be careful not to close the box with your painting facing forward as it runs a high risk of touching paint remaining on the pallet. The shoulder strap clips offer a convenient place to hang a can of spirits. I moved the small handle strap from the back of the box to the front in order to hold a cleaning rag, although I can't use it to carry the box anymore. There isn't an elegant solution to deal with dirty brushes. I lay them in the tray oppositely aligned to clean brushes for transport, and I'm considering drilling various sized holes through the floor of the front section of the tray to hold a few vertically while I'm painting.I bought my box a couple months ago before they raised the price by 50%. At $65, I would have given 4 stars, but at $100 you might want to shop around.

Terrible product super thin wood and costs just as much to return as I paid
This pochade box looked great when I got it and I have the smaller version. The only problem is with a bigger panel and more wood you need to use thicker wood to support it all. Well in building this they used the same thin 1/8th inch wood they used to build the small version to build this one. Now they do use thicker wood for the panel holder but that doesnt help when the main support the main connecting point the palette to which the panel carrier is simply glued not nailed together and the palette itself is the same 1/8th inch thick. This is a huge structural problem. Cleaning the palette it flexes with little force applied. It is now starting to warp a bit. The panel section is also starting to seperate from the panel holder which again this shouldnt happen and wouldnt if it had been nailed together rather than just simply glued together. This is a main wear point and they just used glue alone not even any staples. I wanted to like it but with so many problems I had to return it. I started a return and well surprisingly I have to pay for shipping I cant just return it like a normal return. Well the return price for this box is $72 so approximately the same price I paid for this box. Amazon says they will pay for $20 of it but then im still out $52 for this. Ill just have to call amazon and see what else can be done if anything. For everyone reading these please dont buy this. jerrys artarama sells a better scout pochade box for the same price. I regret buying this and im writing this review to let everyone know beware its flimsy like lowest bidder so thin just using it causes it to fall apart flimsy. Ive used cigar boxes less flimsy than this. Its not worth your money. Sorry. Ill update if I can get any more help from amazon and I hope so but given its an international shipping item I doubt it.
